Everyone had crowded into the room within minutes of you waking up, word got around quickly, and you were just smiling up at everybody, feeling completely fine.
"Did someone check up on Scott?" You asked, knowing everyone else's injuries were minor compared to his and seeing that they all seemed fine told you that the minor ones were at least back in place.
"Cockroach is fine." Tony told you.
"Scared us to death there, doll." Steve sighed in relief, shaking his head.
"Yeah, don't you ever do that again." Bucky pointed at you in agreement, his eyebrows scrunched as his lips were set in a stern, straight line.
"I will do my best," You chuckled, raising your hand to cross over your heart, and then looking around, "Is there no free jello or maybe a burger...? I did just half RIP."
"I'll get you something from the kitchen." Sam offered with an eye roll and a smile.
Natasha sat at the side of your bed, her hand in yours, and even though you were talking to the others, you kept squeezing her hand now and then to let her know you knew she was there and just how happy and safe that made you feel.
You tore into the jello when Sam brought you back a few things and a moment later, the doctors were saying to give you some space, it was so crowded in the room, and then it left you with Natasha who refused to leave. Everyone else agreed, wanting to give you some time to rest, but she just hid her smile when you kept your hand in hers, and even refused to let go when opening your jello.
"This is yours." You mumbled, sliding the plate with the burger and fries on it over to her.
She eyed you before picking it up to take a bite and you smiled into your next spoonful.
"You had him get me food?" She mused, the first words she's verbally said to you since you woke up, but she's squeezed your hand in threes multiple times, telling you silently that she loves you.
"Tony said I had been out for a whole day," You nodded, "So, I figured you hadn't eaten."
"I love you," She finally said what she's been dying to since she hung up the phone back in Philly, "And I'm so happy you're okay."
You smiled, looking away and humming in agreement as you stole one of her fries. She chuckled at the action and continued eating her burger as you two shared the fries, talking about Ollie and how Peter was sorry he couldn't visit, but they don't allow pets on this floor.
"Wanda said..."
"So, are you allergic to anything?" You asked, having a feeling you knew what Wanda told her, but not really wanting to rehash everything so soon, "Because I really like cooking for you, but I'm always afraid I'm going to accidentally kill you."
"Pistachios."
"Oh my god," You gasped, and she watched you in amusement, "They're so...I'm so sorry, Natalia, that is just plain awful, curse whatever god did that to you!"
"Alright drama queen," She groaned with a smile, scooting forward so that you guys were basically hip to hip as she stayed at your side, "But you'll tell me about Logan?" And then you groaned loudly, letting your head lull back to hit the pillows, so she added, "...Soon?"
You straightened your head again to look her dead on in the eyes and she served the look right back, something about no matter what it is, you guys will get through it and she'll still love you.
Cute, but this was still a lot.
Ah, fuck it.
"See this?" You finally let her hand go to raise both of yours and they glowed brighter than if you were healing someone with them, "Got a bit of an...upgrade after I...broke."
"Broke?" She asked carefully, the worry in her voice obvious.
"My powers were quickly reversing," You explained, resting your hands on your lap, "And I was trying so hard to hold them back once I realized as I waited for Banner to get to Brooklyn – side note, Banner in Brooklyn would be an awesome hulk in a hospital TV show, am I right? Ha, like a hors-"
"Y/n, focus." She pleaded and you sighed, nodding.
"Where was I?" You didn't wait for an answer before you perked up, "Ah! Yes! So, I really didn't want Scott to get dead again and I kind of just...it was like an offer of my life for his in a way."
You shrugged, not overly satisfied with that explanation, but it was the best way to put it without going into the details of how your healing powers worked, trading a soul for a soul. As though you could've used your life to save his because in the reverse, you'd probably live even with the loss of blood, but you'd take the ticket to hell if it meant Scott was left untouched.
You picked up another jello packet, humming happily with the green color this time, but the redhead snatched it from you before you could even dip your spoon into the giggly heaven, and you scrunched your face up in annoyance at her.
"That was mine." You grumbled, pouting afterwards as she didn't even start eating it, just put it off to the side like it wasn't worthy of her tastebuds.
It is just jello, and she is Natasha Romanoff, but still, damn woman.
"You need to stop doing that." She whispered and you furrowed your eyebrows, eyes still on the green that wasn't as pretty as her eyes, but it didn't betray you either.
"Sorry I need to eat to survive."
"I'm talking about sacrificing yourself!"
"Ah," You finally met her eyes again and then cringed with a higher voice, "Yeah, not sure it's in my nature."
"I've noticed."
"Still love me?"
"Yes," She sighed, trying to sound annoyed, but she was smiling, and her voice was more in awe than anything, "But you'll at least take a break from...everything? For a while?"
It was a compromise you were willing to make and an easy one at that since everything else seemed to have died down.
"Promise."
