Chapter 7

The next morning Vanny layed in her bed starring at the ceiling. She thought she would've felt happy but she didn't. she felt confused and alone. She kept replaying everything that had happened in her head then she got a text. She read "Good morning" the text was from Jake. "Good morning" she typed and then sent as she got out of bed. She slipped on some slippers and walked to Clara's room. "Clara." She whispered while she walked over to Clara's bed and sat next to her, she looked down at Clara and tucked one of Clara's loose hairs behind her ear. "Momma?" Clara mumbled as she turned over in her bed. Vanny rubbed Clara's back and tucked the pink blanket around her just a little more then walked downstairs. Once she got downstairs she saw her mom on the couch so she went and sat next to her. "Hey." Vanny said quietly. "Hi." Her mom replied. "Why are you up so early?" Her mom asked. "Couldn't sleep..." vanny said as she grabbbed a blanket and pulled it over her. "How are you feeling?" Vanny asked. "Fine." Her mom replied as Vanny layed her head on her mom's shoulder and for a second everything was calm nothing was going through Vannys head and Evrey thing was okay until her mom got up. "I have to get ready for work." Her mom said before getting up and walking upstairs. Vanny sighed and got on her phone, she had a missed message from Jake it read. "Meet me at the park in 10." Vanny texted back. "Uhm why?" Typing bubble... "you'll see. 😏" Vanny Rolled her eyes and went to her room to get ready. She was still in Jakes hoodie from the night before so she threw it off and put on a navy square neck crop top with grey sweatpants. She slipped on her uggs and grabbed her bag. "Bye mom I'm going to the park!" She yelled before closing the door. Once she arrived at the park she didn't see Jake's car so she pulled out her phone and texted him. "I'm here. Where are you?" She typed. "Go to the playground." He replied. She walked to the playground and low and behold there was Jake sitting at the top of the big yellow slide. Vanny laughed and ran over to him. "What are you doing?" She said with a little giggle. "I don't know." He said as he slid down the slide. "Stop! You're gonna break it." Vanny said in a joking voice. "No I'm not!" Jake said. he crossed his arms like a little 4 year old then got off the slide and walked over to Vanny. "So...why am I here? Vanny asked him. "Cmon!" He said then picked her up over his shoulder and ran. "PUT ME DOWN!" Vanny demanded while laughing. Then he stopped running and put her down at little picnic blanket. "What's this?" Vanny asked. "A date." He said as he sat right next to her. She looked into his eyes, they were as blue as the ocean. in her mind he had always been this terrible guy who had no heart but right now he seemed soft and like he really cared about her.

Jake had only loved one girl in his whole life, her name was Willow. He had met her at the beginning of 7th grade they dated for two years and then she broke his heart. after that he told himself he would never love anyone again that's why he treated girls like they were just pairs of shoes, you wear them for a few months then change them out. But Vanny, she was different from any girl he had ever met. He looked into her eyes. "So, tell me about your self." He said with a smile. "There's Not a lot to say..." vanny said then layed down on her back and stared at the sky. "Yeah there is." Jake said as he layed down too. "I'll tell you about me if you tell me about you." Vanny said and then turned her head towards him. "Well I live with my mom ,my dad and my two brothers." He Said. "Wow....your so interesting." Vanny said sarcastically. "Well then you talk!" He said offended. "No it's fine...keep going." She said with a little laugh. "Well my brothers names are Ethan and Charlie." "How old are they?" Vanny asked him getting a little more interested. "Charlie's 4 and Ethan's 7." He said as he Looked up at the bright blue sky. They layed there for a very long time just talking about everything in their lives. The sky was starting to turn darker and the stars and moon were beginning to show. "Hey Jake?" Vanny asked him as she sat up. "Yeah?" He replied. "Have you ever loved somone?" It stayed silent for a moment until Jake finally broke the silence. "I thought I did." He said then he stood up and started picking up the food and blanket. "What do you mean?" Vanny asked him While trying to help him clean up. "I mean, now I see what love really feels like." He said while looking straight at her. Vanny didn't know what to say she just stood there speechless..."who do you love?" Vanny asked him quietly as soon as she said it he kissed her and wrapped his hands around her neck. For a moment she thought that she was in love with him...but she wasn't. she liked him way better then she ever thought she could but that wasn't loving him that was just not hating him. She only knew one person in the world that she loved and that was Clara. Vanny pushed him away gently. "I'm sorry." She said. "Did I do something wrong?" He said with a worried expression on his face. " no Im just not sure about all this. I like you, I really like you I just don't know if I...love you." Vanny said. Jake blankly stared into her emerald green eyes. "Oh okay, take as much time as you need." He said through gritted teeth. Then Vanny grabbed her bag and started walking down to her car. He hadn't been rejected by a girl since he was in 6th grade. It made him angry that she didn't love him. He had seen his dad make his mom say she loved him by physically manipulating her. Whenever he used to see his dad, do those things he would think how he would never grow up to be like that, but then he felt the rage inside of him, and then he realized he was growing up to be just like his father because he loved Vanny. It didn't matter what she felt, but deep down, he was just the little boy in his kitchen watching his dad hit his mom till she would say she loved him. And that's why he let Vanny leave because he thought he could never hurt her.
