Clara hesitated, her gaze flickering between Marlene and Sarah.

The rooftop, once a haven for their secret love, now felt exposed.

"There's something you should know,"

she finally managed, her voice barely a whisper.

Marlene reached for Clara's hand, offering silent support.

Sarah, her initial surprise melting into understanding, settled onto the ledge beside them.

"We're…together,"

Marlene said, her voice firm despite the tremor in her chest.

"Clara and I. We're in love."

The weight of their confession hung heavy in the air.

Sarah, however, didn't react with the shock or judgment they'd feared.

Instead, a slow smile spread across her face.

"Wow,"

she breathed, her eyes filled with genuine warmth.

"That's…amazing. I'm so happy for you both."

Relief washed over Clara.

They'd expected rejection, scorn, anything but acceptance.

"You're not…grossed out?"

Marlene asked, a hint of disbelief coloring her voice.

Sarah chuckled.

"Why would I be? Love is love, no matter who it's between. Besides,"

she continued, her gaze meeting Clara's,

"I kind of suspected something was going on."

A blush crept up Clara's neck.

"You did?"

Sarah nodded. "

The way you looked at each other, the little touches… it was hard to miss."

A comfortable silence settled between them, a newfound understanding blossoming.

It wasn't the reaction they'd anticipated, but it was exactly what they needed – acceptance.

The golden light of the setting sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in vibrant hues.

As the stars began to twinkle, the three girls sat huddled together, sharing secrets and dreams.

"So,"

Sarah finally said, her voice tinged with curiosity,

"what are you two planning to do about…well, everything?"

Marlene sighed.

"We don't know. Max is spreading rumors, and everyone seems to be against us."

Sarah's eyes flashed with determination.

"Don't let him win,"

she said.

"You deserve to be happy, and you shouldn't have to hide who you are."

Clara felt a surge of gratitude towards Sarah.

Her unexpected support was a beacon of light amidst the darkness.

"We could come out publicly," Marlene mused, her voice barely above a whisper.

"But how? And when?"

A mischievous glint appeared in Sarah's eyes.

"Leave that to me,"

she said, a playful smile dancing on her lips.

"I have a few ideas."
