Cadence had always been one to go where she wasn't supposed to, no matter where it was. Many never understood how she'd snake her way into places but she felt as though it was a far stretch. Unless walking through the front door could be considered 'snaking her way in'.

"Mommy, aren't we going to get in trouble?" Hunter questioned as he and his brother held her hand, walking into Joe's abandoned record store.

"Not unless we're caught, which we won't," Cadence whispered and moved further into the store. She smiled, switching the lights on without a care.

"This whole place is going to be abandoned and with it, its records," She informed in a calm tone and began to sift through the items, "Joe wouldn't want them all to go in the trash. So in honor of his memory, I've decided to help myself to some of them. Free of charge."

The two boys giggled, too young to understand that their mother was breaking the law and stealing. Not that she'd care. Its owner was dead and a vampire.

She respected the man, she always had. He died protecting his city, his home. Just as she would've. And she had always been fond of the store, her love for records a hidden hobby. She always thought the music to sound more clear than a radio or bluetooth.

"Mommy, can we play one?" Hunter held out a record of jazz, earning a small smile from Cadence.

"Yes, there's a player right over here," She informed them and both boys followed their mother. She knelt before it, holding her hand out for the record.

He handed it to his mother and he and his brother watched curiously as she placed it on its resting place.

"And then you put the needle down," She explained and Hayden smiled as the music began to play.

"I can't hear it," Hayden complained and before his mother could attempt to make it louder, the boy had used his powers to play it on max volume.

"Hayden!" Hunter screamed dramatically and rushed to cover his eyes.

Cadence shot Hayden an annoyed look and the latter sighed, allowing the volume to go back to normal.

"You could always just turn the knob," She remarked sarcastically and made the music a bit higher, "But I suppose where's the fun in that when you have cool magical powers?"

"Our ears?" Hunter whined and Hayden giggled at his brother's dramatics.

"A rebel, I could see, but a criminal?" A familiar voice suddenly spoke up and Cadence's eyes widened, "Quite the partners in crime you've chosen."
