it's been about two weeks since bella's accident, and since then, she has surprisingly been hanging out more with me. not that i'm complaining about her company, i just thought she seemed to prefer to hang out by herself. she had revealed to me a few nights after the accident she had been having dreams of edward in her room.
i thought it was weird at first, but then i thought it was straight up creepy as she described it as if he was physically in her room. we did try to look up to see what those kinds of dreams meant, but all the answers we came across were never the same, so we just kind of gave up looking.
right now, we were just in my room, bella laying on my bed while i sat in my rolling chair. it was a saturday, no school and homework to bother us, at least not me until tomorrow.
raymundo and ramiro were at their track and field try outs, papi with them along with lorenzo and yvonne so they could watch. mami was with juanita and sonya in port angelas, having a "girls day" which really was code for gift shopping for my birthday. it was this monday, the 14th, that day also being valentines day. i asked papi and mami if i could stay home that day earlier this week, and they agreed, but then mr. varner sprung up a field trip we have to attend for a big part of our final grade.
"who makes you go on a field trip not only on a monday," i held up a finger. "but also, on valentines day?" i groaned, spinning in my chair as bella gave a small laugh from my bed.
"isn't that your birthday too?" she asked, and i hummed in agreement.
"how'd you know?" i asked her, turning in my chair as she paused her scrolling on her laptop. she looked a bit nervous, as if i had caught her doing something she shouldn't have. i stared at her longer, knowing she doesn't like the intensity in my gaze, and she finally cracked.
"jessica and angela were talking about it on friday. they wanted to surprise you after we come back from the field trip." she reveals, biting her lip with a nervous smile.
"oh no.." i groaned, burying my face in my hands. i can already imagine the embarrassment they're going to put me through.
"don't tell them i told you." bella pleaded, and i sighed before taking pity on her.
"i won't. even if i told them not to do anything, they'll just do something anyways." i say, grabbing a photo from my birthday last year that was framed on my desk. it was one of jessica and angela being smothered by me, the mess of cake on my face smearing on them as well. we were laughing in the picture, a memory that brought a smile to my lips.
"last year, they somehow convinced my parents to let them sneak into my room and surprised me. they shoved a cake into my face and paid lorenzo $10 to take a picture." i laughed, and bella observed the picture as she smiled to my retelling of the story.
"too bad they didn't run, because i just ended up getting all three of us super messy. you should've seen jessica at first, so mad the frosting almost melted off her face, but when she saw angela messy too, she just started laughing." i smiled, seeing bella handing back the photo and i placed it back where it belonged on my desk.
"good to know i haven't told them my birthday then." bella said with a small laugh.
"make sure you don't. knowing you, you'd probably drop dead out of embarrassment!" i laughed, and bella's laugh was a bit louder this time to the joke as she agreed.
our laughs continued for a bit longer before we fell into comfortable silence. i was about to offer to get another bottle of water for bella, but her expression growing serious made me stop in asking.
