When no one's watching

Chapter 24

3rd person's pov:

People were standing at the entrance of the house looking down to the ambulance which was just driving off with sirens wailing.

Liam had fallen in some kind of shock after Louis had measured Zayn's pulse.
He didn't witness anything going on around himself until Louis softly shook his shoulder.

They decided that Liam would drive in the ambulance and Louis and Harry would drive to the hospital with their car.

Liam was sitting next to Zayn who was laying on the ambulance stretcher.
Tears were endlessly streaming down his cheeks as he saw Zayn laying there.

The two paramedics immediately started with their work.

Liam could hear one of them saying something to the other.
"We got a respiratory arrest, we need CPR!"

Immediately the paramedic started reanimating Zayn.
Liam's shaking hand grabbed Zayn's lifeless, ice-cold hand.

It was like in one of those predictable movies just that this wasn't a movie and there wasn't a garantueed happy ending...

Eventually the ambulance arrived at the hospital and they hurried inside.

Liam wasn't allowed to go with them. He wasn't even able to protest anymore, he just sat down in the waiting area burying his face in his hands.

"Excuse me, are you here for the young man that had just been admitted?"

Liam looked up and met the eyes of a female doctor.
He nodded, wiping away the tears with the sleeves of his sweater.

"Can I go see him?"
The doctor smiled at Liam sympathetically and sat down next to him.
"I'm afraid you can't. Since you are just his friend I'm not allowed to let you inside. I'm sorry."

"No! You don't understand, I need to go see him."

Just as Liam argued back Louis and Harry ran towards Liam and stopped in front of them.

"I'm sorry but I really cannot let you go in there. It's very critical at the moment..."

"But I'm his family! I'm his boyfriend.."
Liam looked down and tried to avoid the tears threatening to spill again.

"I'm very sorry, but you can help by telling me the name of him
and the events of the evening. The blood test is going to be sent into the laboratory but it will take a few hours so we need a hint to know what we have to expect."

"His name is Zayn Malik..."
Liam then took a deep breath and swallowed before he started to tell the whole story with a trembling voice.

Meanwhile, Louis and Harry looked at each other confused.
Did they miss an episode?
Were Liam and Zayn boyfriends and nobody knew?

"...And then I went outside with him and he was extremely pale and close to collapsing all the time. We wanted to walk a little but he couldn't and I saw down with him. He had troubles breathing, he started retching and threw up but he was too weak so he just leaned against my shoulder. After a while we stood up and not even even 10 feet of walking he suddenly collapsed."

Liam took a deep breath again and looked at the doctor who was nodding.

"There's a big possibility that he was drugged or also called 'roofied'. Meaning someone had put a drug as Rohypnol or GHB into his drink to probably make him compliant. It's also called the date-rape drug and it often circulates at parties."

Liam stared at the doctor with wide eyes.
He had promised Zayn to look after him and watch out that nothing would happen.
And now Zayn was laying in the hospital just because of him...
