Fleeting moments of tenderness, once left uncherished and unspoken, withered away like autumn leaves, leaving only a haunting whisper of what could have been.

Theresa's revelation weighed heavily on my mind, the idea of such actions was unbearable. How could I face her? He, if I was in her shoes, I would never accept such conditions, leaving me puzzled by her resolve. It was deeply disconcerting.
In her hospital room, she slumbered peacefully, a vision of beauty with serene features, long lashes brushing her cheekbones, and perfectly arched brows. She was the most exquisite person I had ever encountered. Looking at her made me aware that I could never be the same without her.
Upon her awakening, the doctor provided medication for her. Once back home, I prepared three slices of pizza and a glass of juice for her, with plans to make a meal later.
As I busied myself with the ingredients, my brother's Luna, my sister-in-law suggested I shouldn't bother cooking for my mate, joined by our Gemma's mate in her opinion. Their comments stirred anger in my wolf side, yet I maintained composure out of respect for their authority.
My brother and others echoed their sentiments, until Alex decided to disclose my secret to my mate, her hurt seeping into my soul. I absorbed her emotions, but she remained composed, preventing me from confronting my challenging brother and Alpha.
After dinner, I ensured she took her medication before we retired for the night, uncertain of her thoughts. The following morning, my beautiful mate was gone without a trace. Racing downstairs, there was no sign of her, her faint scent indicating her departure some time ago.
I sprinted into the woods taking the paths which my agitated wolf guided me, my heart was racing in fear and doubts. My instincts telling me that something wasn't right but I didn't have the time to think or make the right decision.
Her scent started getting stronger and stronger until I came to a halt at the edge of a cliff, what I saw had my breath hitching, my mate was hanging on a long scarf which was wrapped around a weak brunch which by the way was breaking, I tried grabbing the scarf with difficulty.
Frustrated that I couldn't, I climbed the brunch which was near the cliff but before I could even save my mate she was already falling, I wasted no time in following her but it was too late as her head smashed against a heavy rock while a wood pierced her in the back coming out of her chest.
At that moment I knew my life would never be the same, my whole life I prayed and hoped for a mate and I got a mate, beyond what I had wished for but now I was loosing her and I couldn't do anything to help her as a fell on top of her, the same wood piercing me in the chest, as I felt our bond snapped ruthlessly, I blacked out, all I felt was numbness, I felt empty and for a second I wondered if this was how death felt.
I wanted to know if I was dying or living, I mean if she is dead then what is the reason for staying alive.
After what felt like forever my eyes fluttered opened, I groan as I sat up rubbing my eyes in the process of yawning, as I took notice of my surrounding, my brows furrowed in confusion. "Why am I in the pack's infirmary? What happened? What is going on?" I questioned myself as I tried to piece things together yet I felt like something was missing, a part of me.
I don't know why I was thinking like this, the opening of the door interrupted my musing as Alex and his mate walked in. "Mate" my wolf whimpered. Why would my wolf whimper after mentioning the word "mate?".
My brother and his mate gave me concern frown yet I couldn't piece anything together, as I was clouded with my thoughts the opening of the door interrupted my thoughts again as our pack's Gemma and Delta walked in with the mate's, followed by doctor Theresa, a sweet scent hit my nose causing my wolf to stir and whimper again. "Mate" my wolf said again, this time whimpering in agony, in his distracted state he let a couple of images slipped into my head.
A girl in the living room, laying on the floor with mud all over her, her different shades of eyes snapped open staring straight into mine, then I heard the word 'mate'.
The next scene was her sleeping in my room on the floor, then we were in the hospital, then the kitchen when my family tried talking to me to serve her the food they had prepared and then my brother, Alex revealed my secret to her.
Then I saw her hanging on a weak brunch with her eyes filled with fear and plead, I jolted from my memories. I quickly pulled out the IV drip and stood up on shaky legs.
"Where is she? Is she fine? I need to talk to her, please," my voice broke with each word I spoke. I felt empty, emptier than I thought I would be if I lose anyone close to me.
"Listen, Marcel, the doctors tried everything they could. It was hard but we couldn't save her. She had a lot of undiluted silver in her system, the doctors said she was too weak to hold on," My brother's mate said in sadness and comfort but I felt no comfort at that moment, all I knew was that she was gone and there's nothing I can do.
I stormed out of the ward, opening every door in the infirmary seeking for my mate's corpse, that word made a son broke through me, standing in a lifeless ward with someone laying on the bed. I pulled off the blanket and saw her laying there, she was still bloody, her face looked pale but serene as if she was just asleep.
As I stood there, pouring out my heart, I couldn't help but feel the weight of my own regret, "You came all the way here just to leave me behind? How cruel could you be? I love you so much, but you broke me into pieces. I didn't know how cold the world was until you decided to leave it. You didn't even tell me your name, your age, or origin - you just left me in the dark. I was planning to show you that nothing anyone says mattered as long as I had you, but I must have been stupid. I should have cherished the moments I had with you, but I never did. I should have let go of my relationship and focused on you. I should have come clean, but I was so afraid of losing you that I completely forgot what was right." The more I spoke, the emptier I felt, the realization dawning on me that my own fears and doubts had driven her away, and now my friends and family's disapproval might have made her feel like an outcast, leaving me with nothing but shattered dreams and longing.
I turned to my brother and friends just as my parents walked in, "Are you all happy now? I mean the rogue who is the Beta's mate is gone. She finally left just like everyone one of you wished. You should make merry, drink, eat and dance to your hearts content because the abomination has been ripped off by death. You will no longer see, sense or smell her".
Alex and his minions gave each other a look of disbelief but I didn't care because I was saying the truth, "Look, Marcel, that was not what we wanted, we just wanted you to reject her and get married to the woman who is the best. We never wished her death"
I let out a bitter laugh, hearing those words from our Delta, "You all have your mate's because of my influence, I never once questioned the background of your mate's despite knowing where they came from. I wonder how I am related to all of you. I'm so ashamed to call you friends and families".
I shook my head with disbelief, "That girl has been abused her whole life, she has been in hell but she held on yet those I call family and friends took the spark of light out of her without a shred of regret". I thought bitterly.
"Doctor Theresa tell a nurse to bring me some new clothes and few other things for me to clean her up," I said to the doctor before turning to my dad.
"Father, let me have your phone," my father quickly handed his phone to me and I quickly dialed a contact.
"I need a casket, the latest one. For my mate please. I will be expecting it in an hour," I said before hanging up knowing that the person would bring it.
"Give me some alone time with my mate" I said laying beside her with a sigh telling myself not to cry. My family and friends left the ward, after making sure they were really gone, all hell broke loose, my years run down my cheeks like a river, life is cruel.
