BLACK MATE

Chapter 14

Love for me was a myth until you came and filled me with love. Today I can proudly say that I am not in love, love is in me.

It's been three weeks since I went on that walk with her. Her appearance in my life has been a shock to me, her being my mate didn't help my fears of losing her again if I ever made the same mistake as I did five years ago. Honestly, I didn't want a second chance mate but that thought was long forgotten the moment I saw her, Excel is everything my late mate was, same face and aura but different eyes but that doesn't matter.

I felt like I finally had a chance to amend my past mistakes, life has given me a second chance and I was not ready to waste it, not ever. Whenever I remember her name I know that name would be just fine on my late mate. Whatever happened to my late mate I swore to find out but I would not allow my past to asunder what I have with her.

That night we were taking a stroll on the street, and my brother mind-linked me to meet at the pack house, I went to his office while she walked into the elevator. Getting to his office, he informed me that a vampire had killed two of our pack members, and they had mates.

I was angered, one of the couple had a child, a barely a day-old baby girl, according to Alex the woman went into labor after the bond with her mate snapped, and they had to do a C-section to get the baby out since she couldn't push, I don't blame her as losing a mate was the most painful thing any werewolf could experience. Anyways, the woman didn't survive it and died in the process, now that baby was orphaned.

We've been investigating the issue for the past week and we just got some clues. The baby is still in the hospital and I was planning on going to visit her today since no one has gone to visit her, everyone has been busy on the case and I'm busy as hell but I can get the thought of that child out of my mind.

I asked Excel to come with me and she agreed though she have no idea where we are going.  She is so efficient whenever it comes to me, ever since she came here I have never touched her, no skin contact made between us and it's becoming unbecoming to keep my hands to myself.

We made us to the hospital in silence, we made it to Doctor Theresa's office, "Good morning, doc," I greeted while she stared at me speechless, she was even more shocked when she saw Excel, the same reaction my parents and family members had when they saw her.

Clearing her throat she responded, "Good morning, Beta Marcel".

Fuck. Do you have to use my title? My mate stared at Theresa in confusion but chose not to comment which I was grateful for that.

"I came here to see the baby," I said with a sigh.

"Oh, I wanted to speak to you about that as well, actually Alpha Alex has been mute about what he wants us to do with the baby, she is too young to be in the orphanage but no couple needs a child yet and I don't know what to do with her," Theresa explained to me which made me feel aggravated, I don't have an official partner yet to take in a child and even if I had one would she agree to do it?.

"I will come up with something later but for now I want to meet her," I stood up with Excel in tow, as Theresa escorted us to where the child was currently being fed by a nurse.

I watched as my mate walked towards the baby, her expression unreadable.

"She is beautiful. What's her name?" Excel asked no one in particular.

"She doesn't have a name yet," Theresa replied as my mate took off the amber bracelet around her hand, wearing it on her hand with a smile.

"Can I?" The nurse handed the baby to my mate, immediately she was in her arms the baby's short hair began to swirl around. Theresa and I looked at each other in shock but my mate wasn't fazed for whatever reason it was.
