As we walked, Malina hardly moved but the veins creeping along the burn marks grew wider and darker. They were killing her slowly. At one point she opened her eyes. She brought her hand up to my cheek, running her thumb over my skin. Her eyes were glassy, and I was not sure if she recognized me.

"Hello Malina." Her eyes closed again and her hand dropped. Come midday we were surrounded by elves.

"The dwarf breathes so loud, we could have shot him in the dark." The elf that had spoken looked at me. Then he looked at me before calling out to one of his men.

"Orophin! Mab ín dan Caras Galadhon." (Orophin! Take her back to Caras Galadhon.) Another elf approached. I held Malina close to my chest. The elf called Orophin spoke quietly, holding out his arms to take her.

"E innas gwanath." (She will die.) I did not want to believe it but Malina was going pale and the veins were growing darker. I handed her over to the elf, watching as he took off running Everything was wrong. How had Malina found us? Why had she run away that night? What had happened to her? She was all my mind could think about. My beautiful Malina.
