Eddie was one of the most independent kids at Hawkins High School. He hated listening to any type of authority figure. No one could tell him what to do, and he was adamant about that being the truth. He was a force to be reckoned with and no one had the guts to reckon with him, that is... until Steve Harrington came along. The two had been at school together for multiple years, but they never interacted. The first time they had an actual conversation was when Steve was picking the kids up from their DND club. The two hit it off right from the start, and they have been hanging out together ever since. No one saw their friendship coming with the way they bickered constantly, but the bickering is what brought them closer together. They loved taking hits at one another, because they knew what was funny and what was not. They knew each other's limits, so they got along perfectly fine. No one questioned the closeness of their friendship, until Robin made a comment to them in private. Thus started their coming out journey. It only took a month or two, for the school to pick up on what was happening. With Eddie's status as a satanist and Steve's status as the coolest senior in school, they were never messed with.
Even after their relationship started, Eddie still heavily leaned into being a very independent person. He would keep reminding his friends how he was the one in-charge in his relationship with Steve, and Steve would let him. He would watch with a small smirk, as Eddie told their friends this. Everyone believed that, until one specific day:
"No one tells Eddie Munson what to do." Eddie yells, right before climbing onto the cafeteria table.
Dustin, Mike, and the rest of The Hellfire Club watch him as he makes a little speech to the rest of the school. His voice mocks the different table groups for a solid minute, until another voice is heard loud and clear throughout the cold cafeteria.
"Edward!" Steve says, as he enters the cafeteria.
Everyone turns to look at him, including Eddie, who gulps at the sight of Steve's raised eyebrows.
"Get down." is all it takes for Eddie to quietly come off of the cafeteria table.
Chatter fills the room again, as Steve walks over to The Hellfire Club's lunch table. Everyone sitting at the table watches Steve whisper something into Eddie's ear, causing the Dungeon Master to shake is head furiously.
"Then sit down." Steve says, his voice a bit louder this time.
Eddie quickly walks to the head of the table and sinks into his seat. Steve follows after him and sits on the corner of the table. He sets his lunch bag onto the table and opens it like nothing happened.
Gareth is the first person to break the silence, "So, what were you saying about no one telling you what to do?"
Eddie looks up at Gareth and flips him off, only to get a glare from Steve and retract his middle finger.
Everyone at the table chuckles, and Eddie glares at all of them, "Shut the fuck up, you motherfu-."
Steve clears his throat, "Don't even start."
Eddie grumbles and leans back in his chair.
Dustin smirks, "Damn. You really know how to walk him like a dog."
"And I could do the same to you, Henderson." Steve says, his motherly eyes staring daggers into the younger.
Everyone hushes up and tries to change the topic.
