"I've already talked to the coach and he says you can come and watch us this weekend. But... he kinda said that you have to sit with him and help him out a bit. Would that be alright with you?" Kuroo asked, chuckling nervously as he rubbed his nape.
They were already on their way home, Kenma trailing beside Kuroo who, every now and then, would guide Kenma so that he wouldn't stray towards the middle of the road. The second year setter was preoccupied with his game, while the two third years were discussing the training camp.
"Are you sure that's fine? Because I will really help out if that's necessary," Rin replied, shrugging as Kuroo kept searching for her emotions through her eyes.
"It is. If you're willing to watch us train, it won't be any problem. You just have to tell your mom. The coach is fond of you anyway, maybe that's why he agreed." Kuroo stated, giving his long haired friend a nice smile.
"I'm still wondering why you didn't apply as a manager for our team," Kenma's sudden reply surprised the two, but Kuroo knew he had a point.
"Yeah, why not? You're always at the gym anyway." The captain added, but Rin could only shrug.
"Sorry. I just don't see myself doing it. I love watching you guys play from the bleachers. I don't mind helping out every now and then, though. But to be an official member is kinda not in my list." She replied, earning nods from the two.
"Understandable, I guess. I respect your decision. Besides, we're already in our final year of high school." Kuroo agreed, shrugging.
After walking and walking, they finally got in front of Kenma's residence. They bid the blond goodbye, with him only responding with a nod— he was probably exhausted from the training. Kuroo could only chuckle, used to Kenma's moods.
Kuroo and Kenma were neighbors, so Rin was expecting that Kuroo would come home already but they walked past his home. Rin furrowed her brows and looked at Kuroo, a brow raised.
"Shouldn't you have come inside your home by now? Why are you still walking with me?" Rin asked, but Kuroo's eyes were fixated in front of them.
"Well, I wanna walk you home as a thank you for cooking for me. Such a shame Kenma couldn't join us for lunch earlier." Kuroo replied, shoving his hands in his pockets.
They continued walking, since Rin's house was not too far from Kuroo's. They could literally just walk and meet up with each other whenever they wanted to. Which is why she didn't complain when Kuroo insisted that he walk her home.
"Thank you for the curry as well. I enjoyed it," Rin explained, "You'd be a great husband."
"You mean that?" Kuroo asked, raising a brow as he shifted his gaze towards the long haired lady.
He smiled. When their eyes met, grey clashed with hazel. His hazel eyes were one of the most beautiful things she had laid her eyes on. Rin had always been fond of Kuroo's eyes, how expressive they were. She could always tell when he was excited, a bit cunning, nervous, or sad. His irises also had the nicest shade of hazel, a pool of greens and browns and golds she could drown in.
"Yeah! Definitely. You should cook more dishes for Kenma and I," Rin joked, but she noticed that Kuroo stopped on his tracks. "You could definitely get closer to your crush if you offer her food, too. Made by you."
"Do you think I'll get rejected by the one I admire if I confess to her? It's our final year of high school. I don't know if I can still confess or not." Kuroo said, and Rin sighed. "I'm not as impressive as everyone thinks I am."
What she didn't understand about Kuroo was that he was already a fine young man but he sometimes doubted himself when no one else was looking. Sure, he was very confident of himself and his skills, but there were times when he thought he didn't do well— he believed he was just average on everything he was skilled in.
"Who could reject someone like Kuroo Tetsuro?" Rin answered, chuckling as she pulled on his wrist so they could continue walking.
"I don't know, you?" He whispered, thinking Rin couldn't hear what he just said.
Contrary to his belief, she heard him loud and clear. She didn't know what to make of it, did that mean that he likes her, or it was just a sarcastic answer from her tall friend? Before she could ask him about it, they were already in front of her residence and he had bid his farewell.
She watched his back walking farther and farther, waiting until he disappeared before she came inside.
Rin couldn't understand why Kuroo treated her especially well. She was aware that he was very kind and supportive to those close to him, slipping in a few provocations and teasing, but lately, he had been much kinder to her. It didn't help that every waking moment with him seems to energize her, as if he was a human battery. He took good care of her, he had always been looking out for her and never did he stop.
She then entered their home and went straight to her room to take a quick shower. After freshening up, Kuroo was still the only one in her mind. Him and his enchanting hazel eyes. She, admittedly, gets lost in them whenever she stared too long. It was the nicest shade and if given the chance, she'd look jnto his eyes longer. Thoughts of him had been plaguing her mind lately, and she was not sure if she was alright with it or not.
Did his declaration that he already had someone he liked make her realize her own feelings for him? Truthfully, she was indeed interested in him but she didn't know if it was strong enough to make her confess. She believed it would be unfair for Kuroo if she confessed to him when she still had so much she wanted to learn about him before diving deeper.
Yet time was also a hindrance.
What if they managed to go to separate universities? Will he keep in touch? Such thoughts scared her. Truthfully, she was afraid of getting more attached to him even though they were already close friends. She wasn't sure if she was ready to say goodbye after graduation.
Just as she was about to entertain another train of thought, her phone vibrated beside her and in came a message from the guy himself.
