➥ I Will not Drown
Another race won. In the skiff, my single man boat, with no one to rely on but my own sweet self. Two tiny sails between me and the fate which terrifies me and rules me in all that I do.
I cannot swim. There is something with my body, which does not allow me to float. I head for the bottom, unable to surface.
The tale from my childhood, my father’s sweating terror and mother’s horrid tears blotching her beauty, are memories forever etched on my soul.
Therefore, I am the best of the best. The next race will prove it. My skill in the boat, drive by angst so deep, it honed my knowledge. Polished my senses. I am a helpless pawn to the fear of the depths.
I am driven, and yet I wonder if it is my desire, or the fear which rules the ambition? A good question, my friends tell me. And I might just ponder it.
The claxon is sounding, and I jockey for the best position to cross the start line. Timing is everything.
