new years eve 2023
Florentine and her father stayed at the Yacht Club for a few hours and the brunette believed it was a step in the right direction. Their conversation was still short-lived and awkward at times, but Bastién wanted to know about his daughter and what she has been up to.
The man tried his best to leave his daughter under the impression that he was fine, but Florentine was neither gullible nor blind, she could see the toll everything took on him. So she promised the man to help him where she could. She wasn't necessarily doing it for him, but Florentine was aware that there was always two sides to a relationship.
Her mother's words lingered in the back of her mind like a tattoo on skin and despite all the frustration and anger, the girl couldn't help feeling guilty. Her mother was right to say that Florentine never cared to ask them about their well-being and looking at it from the outside, the girl felt incredibly selfish for still wanting her parents to reach out to her. The brunette shouldn't have treated her parents like strangers just because she felt hurt by their lack of communication.
At the moment, the young Beaufort girl didn't feel like contacting her mother, still hurt by her drastic choices, but her father was present and finally opening himself up to his daughter and it was something the girl had to give him credit for. She wasn't going to choose a side, no child should have to do that, but she could only do so much and right now, she wanted to start with the relationship with her father.
Not even in the shower did Florentine have a moment of calm, because all she could think of was her parents getting a divorce. Her father's words had reassured the girl slightly, but they didn't help her nor stop her from overthinking and worrying about what it meant for the future of their family.
With all the stress that suddenly weighed down on Florentine's shoulders, she didn't even feel like going to the party George had invited her to anymore. Florentine knew that wallowing in self-pity and locking herself up on New Year's Eve wouldn't be any better, so right after she got home from the Yacht Club, the girl showered and got ready. Now she was sitting on the bed in her hotel room, putting on her black heels and trying to hype herself up somehow.
She was looking forward to seeing Carmen again and she was excited to meet some of her other friends, so it would be a good thing for her to go out. Atleast that's what Florentine kept telling herself, repeating it in her mind like some kind of mantra.
The girl stood up from the bed, getting comfortable in her shoes as she took a few steps towards the white paper bag her father had given her that she put besides her bedside table. She crouched down and got out the old leather-bound book, brushing a hand over it as a memory of her brother flashed through her mind.
They were both still young and Florentine had no idea about boundaries or privacy, up until then she and her brother had shared everything. The young Beaufort girl took the diary and ran through the whole mansion, giggling as her brother tailed after her, determined to get it back before Florentine could open it. It was fun until Bastién stopped the girl and lectured her about how important boundaries were. She hadn't touched the book ever since and she promised her brother to never read from it.
