They were still wet, but drier than before. They headed towards the tent. Harshat tried to hold her hands, though uncomfortable, she did , she wanted it, her heart craved it, but her brain kept saying no, its not right, she should not occupy other's things, she should leave him, his love and help Kashi and Harshat to patch up.
.....................................................................
Next day came, all were set to return home. All the girls were dressed up in a simple attire to make public believe they came from a humble family.
As soon as they reached the palace, every civilian present there started to shower flowers on the newly welcomed princesses of their state.
One by one, every princess touched the father king's feet to receive his blessings "Stay happy dears" when he first received the letter advising to kill all the queens, he was surprised, then he received the letter which made everything sense. Tara asked him to arrange all these fire and adoption thing in exchange of keeping the heir healthy. He was furious at first but what choice did he had, if he wanted the heir fully potential then he had to do what she asked him, so he did. The girls, now princesses were welcomed grandly inside the palace, much to everyone's surprise, Bela kept clinging to Vaishali, due to all the chaos.
The event ended and the girls were designated to their rooms as per king's orders. Kashi also returned to her own room and asked one of the servants to take Bela to her room and take care of her like usual. All this time Tara was in a trance, Harshat stayed close to her and initiated small romantic gestures, which she allowed, but never returned. He noticed it and wanted to ask, but such conversations should not be done in public, so he waited till they were alone.
Now that they got to Tara's room, as usual for the reading session he had a chance to ask, but Tara beat him to it "Harshat, I'm tired today, I cannot read to you, let's go to sleep please" as if almost frustrated and ignoring his face which spoke he wanted to ask something "ok let's not read, but we need to talk, why are you ignoring me?" He asked in a calm tone, no need to get hyper for no reason right "I'm not, I'm just tired.." He needs to know the reason, why was she doing this? "Fine, promise me one thing" she sighed and stretched her hands to let him hold it if he agrees to her promise "you will love Kashi" she stated. Harshat was astonished "What are you saying? I told you already that-" "that you don't see her as a woman right? I know, I know that pretty well, but she loves you" He scoffed " loves me? What should I do? Be thankful to her that she did?!" He raised his voice a bit "Yes you should! Do you know how much pain she went through just to get some affection from you?!" Tara also raised her voice.
She continued before he could talk further "you should be thankful and accept her because of you, her life was ruined, because you were not brave enough to stand up" He threw something he could grab from the table near him in anger " Yes it was my fault, but then why are you punishing my love for you for this! Punish me , not my love!"
"Because punishing you can only be done by punishing your love" she had tears in her eyes "yeah? Then what about you? What about the love you have for me? Why are you doing this to you, why are you doing this to us?!!" He grabbed her shoulders demanding an answer "I just want to be yours Tara, please" she looked at him in the eyes "we got married, we fell in love, and in future, we may have a child together, but only I can never be yours, and you can never be only mine".
This conversation was breaking his heart "then why do you still love me?! Why are you sacrificing our love for someone else?!!" He emphasised on the word us "because I can't live with the guilt of taking away someone's love whom I considered my big sister!!!" She finally shouted, breaking free from his arms.
They looked at each other for a minute, reading each other's every emotion they emitted at that time. Both wanted to hug each other so tight that there is no gap left, but reality is different, they cannot, he had enough, he tried enough, there is a limit to everything, he left the room without saying anything else.
Tara broke down in tears, her heart broke to let her love go away like that, but it was for the best. It ached her that she had to let go of someone she loved romantically for the first time in her life. Then again, they say first love is always incomplete and painful for most of the people, maybe she had the same fate as others. The only difference was, she had to kill her love with her own hands.
As offered on Kashi's part of duty as the grand queen, she visited every royal family member's rooms to ensure their comfort one last time before going back to her own room and sleep.
During this time, she heard the conversation, or rather, argument that was going on between Harshat and Tara. She was devastated, when Tara meant to allow her to return her happiness to her, she meant this?? If yes, she will never be able to forgive herself if she let's this happen. She is going to make sure she makes a plan to patch things up between them. Because love can never be forced. They love each other and that's how they should live for the rest of my life.
On the other hand, two shadow figures, one tall and medium were lurking inside the palace.
