JULIET HAD NEVER BEEN AN AVID TWITCH USER OR WATCHER. If she was being honest, she didn't even really know what it was. But she could distinctly remember the day a clip of an old Lando stream came up on her TikTok almost a year ago, and that was all it took for her to download the app and watch his streams - news flash, she never really opened the app after that.
But as reality does, it struck her down hard.
Now all she can do is add it to the list of things she refuses to look at in hopes that she could forget the heartbreak and broken words that she left behind her as she fled. It was a work in progress.
Juliet wasn't the fondest person of boredom, she'd rather be slashed a thousand times than be subjected to boredom. Perhaps that's why the Twitch notification felt so appealing to her. It wasn't the fact that it was his name or that it felt like a callout for her, to see him once more.
Enzo acted as her security, his heavy weight pressing down on her chest as her thumb pressed the notification with a hefty weight. It felt obscure at first, seeing his face after purposely avoiding everything that had to do with him.
He looked.... happy?
In truth, she wasn't sure what to expect. She didn't know whether she wanted him to start the stream with a sad look on his face or rather greet his viewers with a smile and a laugh like she assumed he had always done.
But seeing him this joyous after everything she had done, gave her a sense of false hope that maybe, just maybe she could rectify the pain she had caused, that she could backtrack the words that had left her mouth all those months ago.
Twitch was an odd streaming service to her, watching live messages fly past on her screen as she tried to even read one, she wasn't sure how Lando could do it. But he did and she could sense the joy it gave the fans watching and the happiness that surged through him as he cracked jokes with Max and failed at the game he was playing.
Enzo purred at the sound of Lando's laugh, his head laying down on Juliet's chest as if he could sense the sadness radiating from her but in the same aspect, it was as if he was solidifying his own sadness in the disappearance of his newly found friend.
"I miss him too, Enzo." She muttered, her eyes tearing up as she watched him laugh.
She analyzed the way his eyes would form smaller versions of his smile when he laughed or how he struggled to contain his laugh when someone in the chat tried to make a poor attempt at a joke - their user was bizarre in itself, something like AngryGinge. She wasn't quite sure.
The tears that had been forming in her eyes eventually fell, no longer being able to be contained by her eyelids. God she felt so stupid, pathetic even.
But just when she though things couldn't get worse...
"Why are your nails painted, Lando?" His voice chimed out, bringing Juliet's attention towards his nails which were in fact painted. A hideous colour of blue but they were painted nonetheless.
His face struggles once again to contain his own laughter, his eyes drifting off camera as he mouthes something to whoever is there. Juliet had a feeling she knew where this was about to go.
Lando laughs, "Someone special decided it would be funny to paint my nails."
If Juliet's heart wasn't already yanked out of her chest and crushed to smithereens by his hand, the appearance of a familiar face on the side of the screen certainly sealed her fate.
The chat was filled with screams and swears, as a familiar blonde-haired model showed her face, waving to the camera as she gave Lando a brief side hug and a kiss on the cheek. Had he truly moved on that quickly? With a model that was only one person away from her? The same model that she had been compared to only months prior.
It felt wrong to assume that he would wait for her, that he would stand on the sidelines and watch as she attempted to fill the void he had left. But that's exactly what she had expected him to do, or at least what she wished she asked him to do.
She wanted him to wait for her, to realize that all he ever needed was her so that when she came to the same realization, he was ready for her. But, that was all a naive aspiration.
"This is Kaia, my girlfriend." His voice was all but faint in the back of her mind, her ears only just catching the words that he was uttering. "You'll be seeing a lot more of her for who knows how long."
You'll be seeing a lot more of her.
Seeing a lot more of her.
Her.
Her chest was inflating and deflating at a speed which she didn't realize was humanly possible, Enzo picking up on it as he stared with his feline eyes. She turned her phone off as soon as he had murmured those words, yet it didn't stop them from echoing through her mind as she lay in the dark.
Juliet didn't want to see more of her for who knows how long, she wanted her gone. For good.
She wanted Lando back. For good.
But now it was too late and she had to reap the consequences.
In a perfect world, Juliet would be where Kaia stood, smiling as Kaia did and laughing with Lando off-screen. In a perfect world, everything would be normal and she would have everything she ever wanted. In a perfect world, Juliet wouldn't be laying in her bed with tears streaming down her face as she realizes that she had truly messed up.
But such a world could never exist. God seeks the enjoyment from punishing his creations and she might just be the best entertainment he's ever witnessed.
