As the final bell rang, signaling the end of another grueling school day, Hannah wasted no time in making her way to a secluded spot behind the school. She desperately needed a moment to herself to unwind from all those endless lectures and monotonous assignments that had been thrown at her.The air was cool and crisp as she lit a cigarette, inhaling deeply to calm her nerves. The smoke curled around her, providing a fleeting sense of peace.
Hannah leaned against the weathered brick wall behind the school, the end of her cigarette glowing faintly in the dim light. She took a long drag, letting the smoke fill her lungs before exhaling slowly. The day had been rough, and this was her only moment of tranquility.
Just as she began to relax, the sound of heavy footsteps approached, disrupting her peace. She already knew who it was, without looking up. Their heavy, imposing presence was unmistakable.
Hannah had been avoiding Fuyuhiko all day at school, and when he finally approached her with that familiar teasing look in his eyes, she couldn't hide her displeasure in seeing him. She crossed her arms, scowling, already bracing herself for whatever taunt he was about to throw her way.
"Well, well, if it isn't the princess herself," he sneered, stopping a few feet away from her, his presence like a dark cloud looming over her moment of solitude. "Didn't take you for a smoker, Togami. Or are you just trying to look tough?"
Hannah rolled her eyes, taking another drag of her cigarette. "Go away, Kuzuryu. I don't have time for your crap."
Fuyuhiko's lips curled into a smirk as he stepped closer, his eyes never leaving her face. "You know, smoking's a bad habit. Especially for someone like you."
She exhaled a plume of smoke, glaring at him. "Why do you care so much? It's not like it's affecting you."
"Oh, I care because watching you mess up is entertaining. But this..." he gestured at her cigarette, "This is just pathetic."
"Oh, really? Coming from you?" she retorted, flicking ash onto the ground. "Spare me the hypocrisy, Fuyuhiko. I've seen you light up more times than I can count."
"That's different," he snapped, his voice low and dangerous. "You shouldn't be doing this."
"Oh, spare me!" she scoffed, rolling her eyes. "You're not my keeper, Fuyuhiko. You don't have a say in what I can and can't do."
His expression darkened as he closed the distance between them. "Maybe not, but someone needs to put you in your place."
She took another drag from her cigarette, unfazed by his hard gaze on her. "Big talk coming from someone who's all bark and no bite."
Fuyuhiko's smirk widened. "You sure about that?" Before she could react, Fuyuhiko snatched the cigarette from her lips, his movements swift and precise.
"You talk a big game," he said mockingly, bringing it to his own mouth and taking a drag. He exhaled slowly, the smoke curling around them. "When really, all you do is hide behind your father's power and influence."
Hannah's eyes blazed with anger. "What the hell is your problem? Give it back."
Fuyuhiko smirked, enjoying her reaction. "You think you can just do whatever you want. It's kind of sad, actually." He took another drag, the smirk never leaving his face. "This stuff will kill you, you know."
She glared at him, her hands slowly clenching into fists. "You're such an asshole."
"And you're a spoiled brat," he shot back, blowing a cloud of smoke directly into her face. "But hey, at least I'm consistent."
Hannah stepped closer, coughing slightly, her voice low and menacing. "I don't need you to lecture me. Go find someone else to bother."
He leaned in, their faces inches apart. "Maybe I like bothering you. Ever thought of that?"
"You're insufferable," she hissed.
"And yet, here we are," Fuyuhiko replied, his tone mocking. He held the cigarette between his fingers, teasingly close to her. "Want it back? You'll have to do better than that."
Hannah's eyes flashed with defiance. "You're not worth the trouble."
Fuyuhiko took a final drag before dropping the cigarette and crushing it under his heel, never breaking eye contact. "Neither are you, but I'm stuck with you anyway."
Then, with a final, lingering look, he turned and walked away, leaving Hannah with a tumult of emotions she couldn't quite decipher. She didn't want his help or his judgment, but part of her couldn't shake the feeling that he was right. And that infuriated her even more.
With a sigh, she pulled out another cigarette, lighting it and taking a long drag. She needed to clear her mind, to push away the confusing feelings that Fuyuhiko always seemed to stir up. But as the smoke filled her lungs, her thoughts travelled back to him again.
She hated how he got under her skin, but more than that, she hated the strange, unsettling feeling that lingered long after he was gone.
As much as she hated to admit it, there was something about their encounters that left her feeling more alive, more herself. And that, more than anything, was what scared her the most.
