Today was the very best day to head out to the carnival. Everybody else seemed to have the same idea. The streets were crowded with parked cars, pedestrians walking about, and the birds must have known there would be something for them, too, at the carnival. I wouldn't know, I had never been to anything like this.
Zach parked the car along the curb, a few blocks away from Starbucks. He unbuckled his seatbelt and groaned, "We are going to have to walk the rest, there's too many kids running around."
I unbuckled myself. "Yeah, okay. No problem."
Zach ran around the car and opened my door. "My lady."
Rolling my eyes, I accepted his hand. "You wish, Malfoy."
He chuckled. "Hey, you're the one who confessed."
I felt my ears go pink. I glared at him. "That's not fair!" Tearing away from his grasp, I repeated his words from that day. "'I didn't mean any of that. I was being stupid'."
Zach looked down at the ground, ashamed, as I quoted his words. He ran his fingers through his hair, nervous. "Look, let's just try to have a good date, okay?"
"This is not a date. I didn't even call you," I mumbled, crossing my arms.
"Whatever it is, let's try not to ruin things and argue the whole time," he grinned. "Though, you do look cute when you get frustrated with me. You go red and your ears turn pink."
I flushed. "They do not!"
"See!" He laughed. "It's right there! You look like a cute angry sprite or something."
"Or something," I mimicked.
The familiar song of the ice cream truck sounded through the neighborhood. Children ran from their houses, clasping money and giggling. The truck came to a stop far along from us.
I smiled and gaped at it like a child. "Zach!" I grabbed his arm and pointed to the ice cream truck. "Buy me some?"
Zach turned to the direction of the sight and reacted the same way as me. "I haven't had ice cream in a while." He glanced down the road. "It sure as hell beats coffee. What flavor do you want?"
"Anything that is blue!"
Zach rolled his eyes. "Here we go again with the Percy Jackson fangirling." He saluted me Attack On Titan style. "Wait here, I shall return with your blue food."
He ran through the crowd of people on the streets, disappearing from my sight. I made my way to the side of the street to get out of the pedestrians' way. I waved at a few kids walking by whom waved back frantically. I continued to awkwardly stand there by myself as I checked my phone, 6:15 pm. Hurry up, Malfoy.
In attempt to put my phone away, I accidentally let it slip out of my grip and onto the pavement. "Shit," I automatically said.
An older couple raised an eyebrow as they passed. I sheepishly smiled and mouthed Sorry. I noticed a teenage boy pass by me, wide-eyed and mumble, "Ouch." I bet he knows the pain of dropping your phone, like every other teenager.
"Teenagers scare the living-"....Great, now I have that song stuck in my head.
I collected my phone and tried standing up, but someone behind knocked into me hard. "Hey-" I stumbled on my hands and knees. I swore under my breath so much, my father would have sent me away to a correction institution.
"Oops, I'm sorry," someone snickered.
"You're just always in the way," a new voice growled.
