We had an awesome time at the carnival, though we had to leave earlier than expected since there was a flash flood warning. Zach, Percy, and Harper decided to hang around at my house, at 11 pm, just until the clouds parted and the traffic was dead.
I unlocked the door and swung it open, but immediately shut it and shrieked when glass collided onto the door. Is someone in the house? I pushed open the door angrily, the boys backing up, startled.
Inside, lying on the couch, was my dad, drunk and drool spilling. Beer cans were scattered everywhere, men I didn't know were drunkly playing a game combined of Go Fish and Solitare. I stared at them, horrified.
"Dad," I said, raising my voice. He didn't stir. I ran to him, panicked. "DAD, GET UP!"
Zach pushed open the door, shocked. "Mr. Cullen?!" Harper and Percy entered, looking as if they wanted to say the same thing.
My dad finally opened his eyes, blinking hard. "Whoa, Clare, you look a lot younger." He stupidly laughed and stroked my hair. I pursed my lips, not sure what to say. "I can't keep up with Jenna, I wish you were here, but she's my angel. My dark angel, but still an angel. You know what I mean?" His eyes rolled back into his head and he began to snore.
"Mr. Cullen," Zach firmly said, amazingly just like his own dad. "You need to get up and go to bed." Harper, Percy, I, and even the drunk dudes were stunned by his rare seriousness.
My dad's eyes shot open at the voice. He gently pushed me aside and looked straight into Zach's eyes. "You can't tell me what to do. You fired me, I don't listen to you anymore."
Zach staggered back. I clenched my fist, wondering if he was telling the truth or the beer was getting to him. "That's it, you are going to bed."
"But, Clare, I don't want to-"
"I don't care! Get your ass up and go to bed, now!"
Dad got up, mumbling under his breath, though I couldn't understand anything that left his mouth. He grogily climbed up the stairs at a slow pace. I didn't leave his side until he lay in bed, lights off, and he was snoring away.
I closed the door and ran down the stairs, tears brimming my eyelashes. "Sorry you guys had to see that...I never thought my dad drank." The boys had already ushered the drunks out, so I began cleaning, grabbing a trash bag and throwing all the cans and cigarettes in. Zach began spraying something that was so thick, I began to gag, so did the guys. "Zach, stop! What is that?"
"It absorbs the unwanted odors, especially smoke, but yeah, it does get to you," Zach wrinkled his nose. He was right, after a while it cleared completely. "See?"
"Why do you carry that?" Percy asked. "Do you smoke?"
Zach didn't answer. "Oh, look, there's a can behind you, Harper."
Harper chuncked it in the trash. "Thanks, Harps," I half-heartedly thanked. "Looks good. Thanks guys, and sorry, I didn't-"
"MY SONG!" The boys yelled, running to the living room.
"I cannot hide what's on my mind. I feel it burning deep inside," Harper sang.
"A passion crime to take what's mine, let us start living for today," Percy followed.
"Never gonna change my mind, we could leave it all behind. Nothing's gonna stop us, no not this time," Zach sang like an angel, not as good as Andy, but good. He grabbed my hand and started spinning me around. "So, take your hand in mine it's ours tonight, this is a rebel love song!"
"Hearts will sacrifice, it's do or die," I sang along. "This is a rebel love song."
*****
For some reason we had suddenly fell asleep while watching Sherlock. I lay there, akwardly slumped against Percy, his arm around my neck. If it was Zach, I would have shoved him away, not caring if I disturbed him, but after all Percy did for me, excluding the bullying, the least I could do was let him be.
I gently picked up his arm, then suddenly I was shoved to the ground. "What are you doing?" Percy's voice angrily whisper-yelled.
I groaned. "Trying not to wake you. What are you doing? Shoving me!"
"Sorry, my fault." Percy glanced over at Malfoy and Lockwood. Zach was unmoving, quietly breathing as he slept on my Dad's lazyboy. Harper hugged a pillow against his chest, snoring a bit.
"Come on, let's go to my room," I whispered, grabbing hold of Percy's hand.
"What? Just me and you?" Percy blushed furiously.
"Do you want to sleep with Harper snoring?" I protested.
"No, but-"
"Good, come on." We reached my door as I pushed it open to a clean room and the scent of fresh laundry. Laundry. My laundry. My girl laundry.
Percy noticed too and I quickly stored away my laundry basket in the closet to put away later. "Sorry, I haven't been here all day, so I didn't get to put all of it away. Take my bed, I know you have back problems." I undid the covers and fluffed the pillows, patting on the bed, beckoning him to lay down.
"It's your bed, how can I possibly take away a girl's bed?" Percy asked, flustered of my thinking and knowledge of him. "How did you know about me?"
"Zach, he said you three used to be good buddies," I replied. "Now lay down, unless I have to pat you to sleep."
He rolled his eyes and gave in. "You don't have to tuck me in, mum," he sarcastically added.
I looked at my cumfy bed, getting a bit regretful of letting Percy take my bed. "Screw that, I'm climbing in. Downstairs is too far away." I ripped off the covers and threw them over both of us, Percy shivering.
"G-Get off or I'm going downstairs!" Percy demanded. "We-"
"Aren't doing anything, so what are you so worked up about?" I grumbled turning to face him. "Just don't think about it. Go to sleep, Jackson."
I turned off the lights and that seemed to end our conversation on the topic.
(It's short, sorry, but I felt the urge to update.)
