Ring.... ring... ring.
"Ugh. Who the hell is calling this time of night?" I say as I turn on my side in bed.
Reaching over with my hand I grab my phone from the nightstand checking the caller ID to see who had the damn audacity to call in the middle of the night. Turning on my light and after letting my eyes adjust I see that it's the radio station calling me and pick it up.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Good morning, Alafia!" A loud voice answered from the other end.
"Good morning to you as well." I say quite annoyed.
"I'm calling you to ask if you could come to the radio station this morning?" The loud voice said.
I pull my phone away from my ear to check the time to see that it was..... four in the damn morning. It felt like I had just gone to sleep even though I went to bed at Nine o'clock. I place the phone back on my ear.
"It's four in the morning...." I say.
"Yes.... and?"
"You want me to come to the radio station to meet this damn early?" I say slightly annoyed.
I hear the voice laugh on the other end.
"Yes, I'd like for us to meet in person and introduce ourselves to one another as well as show you around the station before anyone else comes in and get you settled into your new office."
"Alright. Can I at least have my coffee and wake up first?" I ask.
"Unfortunately no. There will be a fresh pot of coffee here at the station when you arrive. I'll see you soon!" CLICK.
"Lovely...." I say.
I hang up the phone, grab some clothes to change into and head to the bathroom to take a quick shower. After checking myself to make sure I'm presentable I grab my keys and head out the door making sure that I lock it behind me. Luckily it's only a fifteen minute walk from my cabin to the radio station but since it's still dark I made sure I had my hand gun and knife with me. The way people are acting in this world now one can't be too careful.
After fifteen minutes of walking I made it to the radio station and saw someone standing at the door waiting for me. The figure at the door was an older man wearing a full gray suit, tie and black shoes. He has gray hair or at least what's left of it and blueish gray eyes. He smiled at me as I approached him at the door.
"Hello I'm..."
"Alafia, yes, I know exactly who you are." He interrupts.
"It's a pleasure to finally be meeting you!" He says, holding out his hand for me to shake.
"Same to you." I say, shaking his hand.
"Well, now that that's settled, let's go inside and get started shall we?" He says opening the door and guiding me inside.
Once inside we walk over to the elevator and take it up to the third floor to where my office and broadcasting booth is. Silence fills the elevator as we make our way up. Once the doors open he takes me to the broadcasting room and my office. These rooms feel so familiar to me somehow like I've been here for a long time but I'm not sure as to why.
"Are you alright dear?" He asks, pulling me away from my thoughts.
"Yes... I'm sorry, what were you saying?" I ask.
"I said that we are so grateful to have you here and hope that you enjoy being with us." He says a little annoyed.
"You're welcome. I'm glad to be here!'' I say with a smile presentable on my face.
He smiles.
"Ready to start your broadcasting?"
I nod my head.
"Wonderful, I'll leave you to it. If there's anything you need I'll be in my office and coffee is in the breakroom." He says walking away.
Well that was a pleasant first meeting but he didn't mention his name guess I'll just have to call him sir.
After he left I made my way to the breakroom to get a cup of coffee and made my way to the broadcasting booth to settle in and take a few sips to calm my nerves.
Why the hell am I so nervous? It's not like I've never done this before for God's sakes. I've been doing it for a while now.
I take another sip before I put on my headphones.
There it is again that strange sensation I've felt in my chest ever since I entered the building or rather ever since I came to New Orleans. Finally feeling relaxed I flip a switch which causes the "on air" sign to turn on and began to speak with a very wide grin on my face.
"Good morning New Orleans... let's begin... shall we?"
