Kurapika POV
"Welcome everyone to the hunter exam. The time for applicants to arrive has now closed." A man with purple hair, and long legs announced. "A word of caution, if you don't have much luck or ability remember that there are many chances during this exam where you could be seriously hurt or killed. If you accept these risks, you may follow me. If you do not want to take those risks, you can leave with the elevator behind you." He finishes and waits for people to leave, surprisingly everyone stays. "If everyone is staying, all 405 applicants please follow me."
"I thought a couple people would have wimped out. I guess not." I frown. Soon enough, the man leading you guys started walking faster. God, his stride was long, probably about 2 feet at this point. We all had to start running.
"If his walk is our run... then what is his run?" Y/n wonders. I chuckle at that, Y/n was super cute. I just wish I could see the rest of her face.
"How rude of me, I didn't introduce myself, I am Satotz, your examiner for the first phase. My responsibility is to guide you to the second phase." he explains.
"The second phase? What happened to the first phase?" someone asked. I could hear murmurs, confused as well.
"Well, we are already in the first phase. All you have to do is follow me to the second phase. Try to keep up." Satotz answers. I could practically hear a smirk on his face.
"So all we need to do is follow you?" someone yells out.
"Yes, but I will not be telling you when we will arrive, just follow me." Satotz says.
"It seems like a basic endurance test. Doesn't seem like there's a trick anywhere." I huffed. This was going to be a long time.
Y/n POV
We had been running for what seemed like 3 hours, but I couldn't be sure. I stuck by Kurapikas side the entire time, his presence had a calming effect on me. A lot of people had already given up, but I hadn't even broken a sweat yet.
Leorio seemed to have been the opposite from me. His face was drenched in sweat and he had taken off his jacket. I also couldn't imagine how hard it would be to carry the briefcase while running as well. Then, I noticed the snow-haired kid was riding a skateboard. Leorio seemed to also have noticed this because he yelled, "HEY KID! SHOW SOME RESPECT FOR THE EXAM!!"
"Wha-?" he responds.
"YOU'RE CHEATING!"
"How?"
"YOU'RE RIDING A SKATEBOARD. THIS IS AN ENDURANCE TEST!"
All the shouting seemed to get Gon's attention, who was running behind Leorio. "It's not cheating." Gon comments.
"What, how?" Leorio glares.
"Satotz only told us to follow him. Not that we had to run." Gon simply states.
"Whose side are you on anyway." Leorio narrows his eyes.
The snowy-haired kid walks up to Gon, "hey, how old are you?"
"Twelve," he responds.
"Oh cool," he then mutters under his breath, probably meant so we can't hear him, but I pick up on it, "he's the same age as me, hm." He then flips his skateboard up and catches it. "I think I'll run now."
"My name's Killua," the snowy-haired boy introduces.
"Mine is Gon. And these are my friends, Y/n, Leorio, and Kurapika!" Gon says. I could feel Killua watching me, but I didn't make eye contact. I wasn't ready to talk to him yet. I didn't feel like I could trust him. Something about him was off.
