Chapter 3

"You kids want to be hunters? Well, I'm sorry to break it to you, but you scrawny kids probably won't even make it past the first phase. That is, if you even make it to the exam site at all." A bald man scoffed.

"Yea, the exam is for strong people, not kids." His friend added.

Sighing, you casually walk over to them, ready to fight. Only to be picked up by Gon. Although you try to squirm out, his grip stays tight around your waist. "PUT ME DOWN GON!" He ignores you and picks up an apple that was dropped and tosses it to a man. Gon finally lowers you down, and you don't hesitate a single bit to slap him. "DON'T DO THAT AGAIN, I CAN TAKE CARE OF MYSELF!"

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry Y/n"

Just then, the captain of the ship comes over because of the commotion you caused, glances between you and Gon and sighs. Gon's nose then started sniffing, "A storm's coming."

"How do you know that?" The captain asks.

"Well the air has a slight change in its scent."

(A/N) - please don't fact check that, it's probably not true, and I don't feel like watching that episode rn, so I'm not sure what Gon actually says.

The captain's eyes widen a bit, and just ask quickly as they widen, they close. It looks like he's deep in thought. He then just leaves.

About an hour later, the storm comes, just as Gon predicted. You head under deck, and find about 40 people there. After another hour, most people start getting seasick. A group of guys were hurling their guts out, but most people were just passed out. Only a couple of people were unaffected. You, Gon, a blonde guy, and a tall businessman. Gon was busy helping someone who was feeling seasick. The blonde guy was reading a book. And the tall businessman was trying to eat an apple in the weirdest way.

Your eyes wandered back over to the blonde guy, his eyes looked as if he had contacts in, just like you, but he looked really pretty just reading the book- wait, what? No, what are you talking about? Snap out of it Y/n!

The captain calls the four of you into his cabin, a sufficient distraction.

"What's everyone's name?" the captain questioned.

"Gon! Gon Freecss."

"Y/n."

"Kurapika." the person with blonde hair states.

"Leorio." who seemed to have a briefcase that you didn't notice before.

"Why do you want to become a hunter?" the captain asked.

"You don't get to ask us questions, especially since you're not the examiner," Leorio shouts stubbornly.

"Just answer me," he retorted.

"Well, I want to become a hunter to find my dad, who left me. I want to find out what kind of hunter he is!" Gon exclaimed with a bright smile. Everyone looked at him, except for you. This was typical Gon behavior.

"I guess I'm taking it so I can help Gon. I didn't know it existed before him." you say nonchalantly.

"You know you didn't have to tell him." Leorio informs you and Gon.

"I agree with Leorio." Kurpika states.

"Aren't you younger than me? Show me some respect!" Leorio towers over Kurapika.

"Why can't we tell him why we're here though?" Gon says confusedly.

"Well, you can easily just lie, but you shouldn't rely on deceit. For me I would be revealing my deepest secrets just to tell someone I just met. Sorry captain, I would've told you otherwise." Kurapika tells Gon, all while Leorio is yelling at him in the background.
