Hello fellow readers, I'm sorry it's late for an update but it's still Friday so it counts! I've been busy with my seven month old this week but I appreciate people taking time to read a story I feel really interested in writing. Please vote and share if you enjoy it, it would mean the world and lets me know if I'm doing a good job or not. Any advice is welcomed 😊
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~The second I heard the door click shut, I could feel the heat on my face almost beginning to make my cheeks tingle. I awkwardly turned my gaze to Jackson and was grateful to see he looked just as shocked. I swore I had seen his right eye briefly twitch, his face almost blank as if his mind was somewhere else. Within a brief moment, he seemed to snap back and quickly shut his slightly opened mouth, pressing his lips into a firm line.
"I'll help you get up." He mumbled to the point I almost couldn't hear him. The ringing in my ears probably wasn't helping either with my hearing. He waked over before reaching his hand out, expecting me to grab it for support to get up. It's as if he didn't remember that the last six years we had avoided each other, more so he avoided me and I just returned the energy, and we were suddenly on good terms again.
Ignoring his gesture, I grabbed the railing on the side of the bed and pulled myself up. Once I was sitting up on the edge of the bed, I waited for the right moment before slowly raising to my feet. Luckily I was able to follow through with my plan and wobble into a standing position before reaching for the folded hospital gown at the foot of the bed. Jackson withdrew his hand curtly, a small sigh coming from him before he went back to the chair and plopped down, his eyes remaining on me.
I shifted in place for a moment, hoping he would realize I had to undress and turn away or cover his eyes or something. But instead he sat there dumbfounded as if this was any casual Friday night for him and he was used to seeing girls change. Clearing my throat, I watched his blue eyes raise to meet mine.
"What?" He asked dumbfounded. I let out a sigh of frustration before raising the gown for him to see.
"Are you seriously gonna sit there and not have the common decency to look away?" I snapped. My tone had come out rather harshly, but I then remembered how he had stayed clear of me like I was a nuisance to him, as if our friendship never even meant anything. And then that small pang of guilt from being rude suddenly dissipated. Instead, a small burst of anger welled in my chest when I heard him chuckle.
"You definitely have not changed." He remarked as a smirk spread across his face.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked, my eyebrows furrowing as I glared at him. He sat there for a moment as if he was trying to find the right words.
"You're still the innocent little sister that would never hurt anyone's feelings and could never tell somebody 'no' to avoid creating any conflict."
"Like you would know." I mumbled, holding back a scoff. My gaze lowered to the white tiles I was standing on and focusing on the small black specks in them. I saw the curiosity flicker in his eyes but before he could question my statement, I interrupted.
