Her eyes widened and I noticed her slightly jump in shock from seeing me standing there. Whenever Alyssa had began walking away, I had heard somebody let out a breath as if they were holding it. So I knew someone was there. However, I was not expecting it to be the last fucking person I wanted to be around.
"I- um," her cheeks tinged pink and I noticed her start to pick at her nails, a habit she had when we were kids. I fought back a smirk from the thought and stayed focus on the fact that she, out of all people, was being a nosey little-
"Look, I wasn't trying to listen to whatever was going on with that girl. I could seriously care less. I'm trying to get to Mr. Grey's class before he hates me and gives me bad grades for the rest of the semester." She quickly said everything in one breath before taking a big inhale. I arched my brow at her in response, continuing to remain silent and watch her to see if she would break under pressure.
A few tense, silent moments passed of her fiddling with her hands and hair, twisting her body back and forth and avoiding my gaze before she spoke again.
"Jackson, I seriously don't care what you do with your life. I just didn't want to interrupt and make it awkward. I'm sorry." She said, her gaze finally meeting mine and the honesty in her green eyes proved that she meant it. She hated the thought of lying and hurting others as a kid, and she clearly still felt the same now.
Slightly softening my glare, I nodded my head to show her I believed her. Despite not seeing each other for years, I still felt like I could trust her word and knew she wouldn't lie to me.
"Um, can you please show me where Mr. Grey's class is? I'm a little lost." She sheepishly admitted, her teeth chewing on a piece of her bottom lip as she glanced around.
God dammit.
It was bad enough we had the same class and a project to work on together, now I was the guy who would be walking her to class.
Everywhere I went on campus, girls were always fucking looking at me with nothing but lust and even some guys were, but with jealousy. I had to keep my eyes focused straight ahead of me, and a neutral look on my face. I made the mistake of making eye contact with a few girls, and they instantly took that as an invite to fucking bug me and practically sexually harass me. I was their walking fantasy, and it made me sick.
I started walking in the direction of class and Lilah hesitated before falling in step slightly behind me. The bell rang to signal classes were starting and when I heard an audible gasp, my eyes glanced over to see she looked scared.
"Oh no, we're gonna get in trouble!" She squeaked out, her steps quickening in pace so she was now keeping up with my longer strides and walking beside me. I kept my pace the same, not giving a fuck if I didn't make it to that class at all. Mr. Grey was a dick, and we both knew we didn't like one another.
A tug on my arm brought me back to the moment, and I instantly thought it was some whore trying to get my attention. A glare settled on my face as I was about to tell her to fuck off, but when I glanced down to see it was Lilah with her two hands wrapped around my wrist trying to get me to walk faster, I could feel my anger slightly dwindle. I couldn't help but feel a corner of my lips pull up into a smirk and realize she was the only girl here who didn't treat me like her sexual fantasy.
