Dread filled my stomach as I turned my gaze away from Jackson and back towards the teacher

Dread filled my stomach as I turned my gaze away from Jackson and back towards the teacher. Mr. Grey continued calling attendance and putting pairs together, but I wasn't paying attention due to the blue eyes staring at me from across the room. And it wasn't like he was subtly doing it either. Majority of the time, I kept my eyes in the front, but every time I would quickly glance over, his head was turned towards me with his eyes watching me.

The first time I looked over and saw his scary expression, I nearly jumped out of my seat from shock. He had a similar expression on his face from Friday night, annoyed. As if I was wanting him to be my partner, let alone be in the same class as him.

"Alright, does everybody know who their partner is?" Mr. Grey asked and after a few moments of muffling and the students looking around, Mr. Grey took nobody speaking out with any problem as an answer.

"For the rest of the semester, you will be sitting beside your partner throughout class. Whether I give you a free period to work on your project, or I'm teaching, I want to make sure both partners are putting in effort and are able to communicate effectively. This project will take up 70% of your grade as it will be a rather time consuming one. So before I explain this assignment, please find your partner and find your new seats."

The second the teacher had finished talking, all of the students began talking while grabbing their things to move seats. I, on the other hand, froze and wasn't sure what to do. It's not that I didn't know who my partner was, I used to know him very well. I just knew I wasn't going to pretend to like the jerk and go over to him and start chatting away like everyone else was.

Instead, I remained in my seat and just looked out the window, wishing for the rest of the students to figure out their partners and sit down already. I refused to be the one who gave in and moved seats, and I wasn't going to give him any of my attention.

As everyone started to settle down, I decided to glance over in his direction only to see him have a smirk on his face, watching me intently. As if this was a game to him and he knew what I was thinking. I made sure he saw me roll my eyes before turning my gaze back towards the window, a small frown pulling at my lips.

Before this class, I was having a really good day. And for whatever reason, I was somehow stuck in a whole semester's worth of classes and doing a project with the last person I wanted to see on this planet. It's not that I hated the guy, hate was a very strong word. I could never hate anyone, even if they distanced themself from me and treated me like I was nothing to them. He just really hurt my feelings, and it hurt even more running into him and having all of those feelings return.

"Miss Spark, Mr. Brooks, is there a problem?" The teacher suddenly asked, causing all of the students to go quiet. I glanced beside me and noticed the shy girl wasn't sitting there anymore. Instead, it was one of the jocks that was sitting beside Jayce earlier. At least, I think that was his name.
