3RD POV

A cloud of despair floated over the city of Trost.

The invading Titans had finally been killed off, but not without the constant fire of cannons for two days. Now, the Garrison and Cadet Corps had to clean the battlefield of the corpses of their comrades and civilians alike. All soldiers in their typical uniform also wear medical-grade gloves and masks to decrease the risk of plague. Each showed tired eyes, having been working nonstop since the Battle of Trost had ended.

Jean walks alongside Y/N and a Garrison soldier. The soldier, holding a clipboard to document who had died in the fight. Jean and Y/N were conversing about what they thought would happen to Eren.

"I still can't believe that Eren is a titan," Jean said in a low voice, not wanting to disturb the eerie atmosphere that had filled the city. "Like... how does that even work? How is that even possible? Is he some god?" Jean continued to rattle off ideas about Eren and his newly found Titan powers. Y/N seemed too deep in thought to even respond, his eyes flashing purple occasionally. It went unnoticed by Jean though, as he continued to ramble.

But both cadets came to a sudden stop when they stumbled upon a body... a very familiar body...

"Hey... Is that you... Marco?" Jean muttered out, bringing Y/N back to what was happening.

"No... Not you... Marco..." Y/N said, sadness evident in his voice. His eyes sparkled bright as ever, but even still, they were filled with sadness.

The Garrison Soldier had met up with Y/N and Jean, also seeing the body. She began to write down information on her clipboard. "Recruits. Do either of you know his name?" But she went unheard by the duo of cadets.

"I haven't seen him around... But... I didn't think this was what had become of him... I don't... I can't believe it." Jean was distraught. The lifeless, half-eaten corpse of his best friend was lying on the cold ground. Jean began to look around to the soldiers in the area. "Someone... did someone see his last moments?"

The Garrison Soldier spoke up, "What is his name? If you know, answer already." She grabbed ahold of Jean's shoulders, "Don't you understand recruit? It's already been two days since the gate was sealed, but we're still not done collecting the corpses yet. If we delay any longer, an epidemic could break out." She looked at a small group of rats that had run across the street. "We must prevent a second disaster. There's no time to mourn just yet. Understand?" Jean was still frozen, not able to comprehend what was happening.

"His name is Macro Bodt, from the 104th Cadet Corps. He lead the 19th Squad." Y/N spoke out, still not taking his eyes off the corpse of his fellow cadet. Y/N, like Jean, was experiencing a whirlwind of emotions at the sight of his dead friend. But unlike Jean, other thoughts were going through his head. Most being directed at the voice in his head.

'Why did this happen?'

'You know so much more than us... Why didn't you warn me?'

'What's happening to this world?'

But one question wasn't directed towards the voice.

'Where is his ODM Gear?'
