February 8th, 1919.

Giyu Tomiokas 25th birthday.

The day he would die from the demon slayer marks curse.

Everyone knew it was coming. They gave Giyu gifts, love, attention, whatever he wanted or needed even if he tried to decline.

Sanemi was at the Water Estate with Giyu for his last day, giving him affection beyond what he would ever give Giyu on a normal birthday. He knew he was only a few months away from his own untimely demise, but he was already planning ways to see Giyu far before his birthday.

"Hey Nemi?" Giyu said, turning to look at Sanemi with a small, appreciative smile. "I really am greatful for all you've ever done for me, you know?"

After a little, Sanemi snapped out of his thoughts and looked up at Giyu with a sarcastic expression. "..you've said this so many times today Giyu I can't even count."

Giyu let out a light chuckle, lightly nudging Sanemis shoulder. "Well I wanna knock it into your thick ass skull before I croak, got that? Death isn't necessarily bad, it's just the end of a life."

Sanemi stopped laughing with him and stared at Giyu for a bit, seeing how he appeared so calm as he looked into the small pond near the veranda they were on ticked him the hell off.

"Giyu. I don't see how you're so calm when you're going to die in a few fucking hours." He grumbled with a slightly angered look.

"Well look at it like this. Yes, you can obviously see death as a horrible disaster, but I see it more as a life interrupted rather than ended. You can always wait for a second chance."

Giyu replied calmly, gazing into the pond for a bit more before looking back at Sanemi with a sad smile and a couple tears.

"I'm not calm. I'm breaking down mentally, I just don't want to see you sad."

"..."

Sanemi stayed quiet and just wiped Giyus small tears from his eyes before they could form anymore than they had.

"When you die, I'm coming with. I can't leave you behind. When we first met, you reminded me of a kicked puppy, I hated dogs back after mine died, so I just wanted to kill you and bury you in my backyard like I did with him. But I've realized now I love you too much to bury you like my dog. I want you to live Giyu. But you cant. So when you die, I'm going down with you."

Giyu stayed silent for a long time, processing what he was just told so bluntly before grabbing Sanemis hand from his face and holding it tightly, staring into his lavender eyes intensely.

"No. Just...promise me you won't kill yourself, or even let someone kill you, alright? Even if you want to, even if you want it to happen, promise me now."

As Giyu stare into his eyes, Sanemi began to tear up and cry a bit, his face contorting before he leaned forward into Giyus shoulder and sobbed.

"Wha-"

Giyu looked a little shocked for a few seconds as he placed a gentle hand on Sanemis back as he shook slightly. "You're crying..because I said that I don't want you to die. And you're. ..you're crying over that, aren't you?"

"Shut up. Just..I don't want to leave you..I'm sorry but I can't make promises.."

Giyu sat there and quietly rubbed his back, waiting for Sanemi to calm down a bit before speaking again.

"I'm sorry for making you feel like this."

Sanemi looked up from his shoulder with a bit of shock, wiping his tears before leaning back and facing him again.
