Jennica's POV
Cameron looked at me with so much regret in his eyes. I lifted my free hand and wiped the tears that were streaming down my face. Just the thought about home made me want to cry. I want to he home, in my mother's safe arms. For heavens sake, I even miss my dad too. Not a ton, just a bit. This is how much I hate it here. I'm a prisoner to Cameron, nothing more. He treats me like a dog but recently I felt a slight shift in his demeanor. For instance, a few nights ago when I told him about my dad, he tried to comfort me but I didn't accept his sympathy at all. Today, he offered me breakfast, brought me to the kitchen and made me food.
That leads us to this moment. I'm recovering from my mini breakdown as he watches me in silence, not moving from his spot.
"Jennica, I-I" He stuttered. "I don't like seeing you like this."
I looked at him with confusion.
"You're the reason I'm like this, Cameron. Don't you understand?" I spat in anger.
"I know, okay?! I-I don't like hurting you either. I'm forced to by my damn boss and I'm tired of being his little string puppet and I'm sick of him barking orders at me. He purposely gets me angry in order for me to do what he wants." He sighed as he rested his elbows on the counter, burying his face in his hands. "I didn't want to do this in the first place." He whispered.
"Then why don't you stop?" I asked bluntly.
"Because..."
"Because why?"
"My boss, will kill us both."
My stomach did a somersault. My eyes widen and my heart began to beat faster. "Both?" I questioned. "He's willing to kill you?"
He chuckled. "He doesn't give two shits about me. He just wants to job done. My life doesn't matter to him."
"What an asshole." I muttered under my breath.
"Right? An even bigger asshole than me." He joked.
I chuckled a bit. "True." I stated.
"Meanie." He responded.
"It's the truth, Cameron." I shrugged my shoulders. He brushed it off and acted like I never insulted him.
"You never answered my question."
He looked up at the sound of my voice. "What?"
"Why are you being so nice to me all of a sudden."
"Ugh, I don't know. I just feel different." He replied casually.
"How so?" I rested my chin on my hand and looked at him. He shook his head. He's silent buy his caramel brown eyes say different. By the way he looks at me, there's something he's hiding.
"Stop asking so many questions." He said, clearly starting to get annoyed at my curiosity.
"You're avoiding this certain question...let's come back to it later."
"There's a reason why. But there's something else in my mind that I want to do."
"What is it?" I don't know if I should be scared or what, but I have a bad feeling about this.
"You'll see."
Bruce's POV
Today is the first time that I will see that sweet, pretty face of Jennica's. The face that I have been craving to see for a while.
I anxiously drove my car to the house where Cameron has kept her hostage. I finally arrived at the house and parked the car in the driveway. I noticed Cam's car isn't in the driveway at all but then I remembered he usually parked his car in the garage. I turned the ignition off, opened the door and hoped out of the car. I could smell the sweet blood on Jennica already. Cameron has been doing his job.
Walking towards the door, I unlocked it and stepped inside.
"Cameron. I'm home." I yelled
No answer.
"Cameron!" I yelled a bit louder as I walked around the house.
Still no damn answer.
"Where the fuck are you?!"
I walked in the kitchen and something caught my eye.
A piece of white paper and words handwritten on it with blue ink.
I snatched it from the counter and read it.
Do your dirty work yourself. Goodbye asshole.
