"Do you think this means something?" Leila sighed, holding the letter for Meredith to be able to see. The sun poked through the curtains of the Bones girls' bed, as the pair lay intertwined under the covers. Meredith was playing absentmindedly with strands of Leila's icy hair as she read the letter again and again and again.

The letter had arrived the night before, as Leila was checking in her her owl Camille. She was a beautiful Northern Hawk owl, with the most peculiar blue eyes. Despite not being able to communicate, there was an innate understanding between the two girls. Noticing her mothers' owl swoop into the small tower, she raced over to grab the letter.

Her mother often wrote to her in her native tongue, french. Adamant on making sure her daughter could read it, as is expected of the heir to the Alinac Dynasty. While Leila didn't know much about her mothers' life in France, she obeyed. Letters like these felt like a secret whisper between her and her mother, something only they could share together. It read;

Dearest Leila Céline,

I am eagerly waiting your arrival back home this Christmas. The house seems empty without your incessant chattering.

It is, however, my duty as you mother to inform you that this Christmas may not be like our previous. As a family, we have fallen into a false sense of familiarity, and it is beyond time we re-establish our role within the wizarding community. Therefore, expect some guests around the chateau this winter - connections as always, are imperative.

This applies for your schooling as well. We have heard nothing but good news about your studies form professors, and are glad you see you are excelling as usual.

Forever,

Maman.

"It's certainly strange - but, honestly, Leila it's isn't anything new." Meredith sighed, "Maybe it just means that they're hosting a few celebrations.."

Leila folded the letter, placing it on her nightstand, before turning over to face her best friend. In the early morning sun, Meredith's hair was a vibrant mahogany ; the dark cherry tones bleeding into a beautiful deep purple. The girl had been experimenting with dying spells since she was eight, but this one was Leila's favourite so far.

Meredith watched Leila's face morph in concern, a face she so often tried to hide. While Meredith understood the inner workings of her best friend's mind, she couldn't comprehend her world - that of the pressure resting on her shoulders. while the Bones' were a pureblood family, their politics and social standing were far less severe.

"It could mean anything, who counts as 'guests'?" Leila mumbled, chewing on her bottom lip. "That refers to a far broader amount of people than just the Malfoys."
