Moonlight danced along the halls of Hogwarts, delicately balancing on the cracks between the ancient bricks. Regulus studied it carefully, watching as it shone. He had always felt a kinship to the moon, the haunting goddess who watched over them all each night. This was his favourite part about being a prefect, wandering around at night. Albeit he wasn't alone, but he didn't seem to mind the company of the girl wandering beside him."My mother tells me the moon and the ocean are sisters" The blonde girl beside him spoke. Pandora Lovegood was an enigma, and Regulus had never been able to truly comprehend the complexities in her mind, but she made for interesting company. "She said they were cursed, to chase each other across the sky"
"Seems like a troubling fate." Regulus commented, watching as Pandora weaved in and out of the archways. "And tiring, I suppose."
"Hm." she mused, "I wouldn't much mind it, it could be quite exhilarating. The optimism of thinking... this is the night i'll reach her."
"What if they gave up," He began, "What if they felt that from centuries apart, they weren't sure the chase was worth it?"
She paused, and regarded him for a minute. Their nights spent together always went one of two ways; a harmonic silence as they floated around the corridors on patrol, or these philosophical debates and discussions. As she stared at him, contemplating a response he heard a noise from further down the corridor.
He turned away from her to see a cutting figure, attempting and failing to pick up the flurry of chocolate that had tumbled to the floor. He didn't have to think twice about who it was, it was as though his blood was singing; luring him towards his brother. Sirius Black.
All of a sudden, the moon and their discussion was forgotten. All Regulus could think about was the boy stood before him, as his heart began racing.
years earlier.....
Christmas' within the Black Dynasty we're never an occasion for elation or celebration. Each event, all crammed into the two week period, was a tactical move. An opportunity for the most noble household in the Wizarding World to fault and project their power across their peers.
That did not stop however, the two dark haired boys from causing their own internal chaos. Regulus was 4, his elder brother and leader Sirius having just turned 6. Like two ancient musketeers, they followed eachtoher all over the household. Running away from their mother, bounding into house elves, entirely innocent.
Andomreda had helped the two boys escape the flurry of prep and planning that threatened to suffocate the household, as their mother and father prepared for the Christmas feast to be hosted the following night.
They darted instantly towards the lake, Sirius laughing with endless mirth as he held his bothers smaller hand in his own.
"Lets dance!" he exclaimed, as the pair went sliding across the frozen lake, tucked away at the back of the estate. her picked his smaller brother up, spinning him around as they waltzed around and around and around.
