"I can't believe we are actually still doing these." Victoria grumbled as she and Tristan walked up her grandparents drive way. Victoria was wearing a white v-neck, sweater-top with a pair of worn out jeans, her ring on her finger and a necklace Emily had given her.
"We're doing this for Emily and Richard." Tristan said rubbing her back as they rung the doorbell and waited for the maid to open the door. Emily quickly rushed over the get the door and let them in, Tristan and Victoria rushed in, worried that something had happened.
"We're going to have to eat quickly, Richard is leaving very early flight to catch a meeting tomorrow morning." Emily said as she rolled her eyes again, and went to go get the door which had rung once more. Emily repeated what she said and she had said to Lorelei and Rory as they entered the house. "Walk as you babble please!" Emily called as the door shut and Rory and Lorelei walked in. "Hurry up!"
"Yeah, cause we don't want our salad to get cold." Lorelei remarked in a sassy tone as she sat down next to Rory, both of them were across from Tristan and Victoria (who had been eating per Emily's request). "Mom?" Lorelei asked as Emily forced them to sit down.
"Eat, eat. Richard Dinner!" Emily called with irritation as she sat down.
"Shouldn't we wait for dad?" Lorelei asked as Rory said nothing, well, she didn't enter my know what to say. Since last week they had gotten back on speaking terms. But Victoria was still refusing to talk to Lorelei.
"Don't worry about him." Emily said with a wave.
"He's the one with the early plane. We don't have to go anywhere. We can stay all night, have a party, do some Jell-O shots, play 'light as a feather, stiff as a board'. Okay, pass the bread." Lorelei said as she looked at Victoria (who was in font of the bread).
"Grandma, would you like-?" Rory's sentence was cut off by Emily. Tristan quickly passed the bread as he realized Victoria refused to give it to her.
"Yes please." Emily said cutting off Rory's sentence as Lorelei finally got her bread.
"You started?" Richard said pointing out the obvious as he entered the room.
"You have a six-o-clock flight." Emily said as she looked up at her husband.
"Six-o-clock? Are you sure?" Richard said as the maid came over and poured wine into Emily's glass.
"What do you mean 'are you sure?' Of course, I'm sure. I double-checked it with your secretary. Because I know she's an idiot. And all three times, she told me six-o-clock. I wrote it down, I have your richest right out on the—" Emily abruptly stoped her whole speech and looked at her husband. "You're teasing me." Emily countered.
"Very possible." Richard said with a smirk as he went and sat down at his place.
"I don't find that amusing, Richard."
"Exactly the point of teasing, Emily. Hello Lorelei." Richard said as he finally placed the napkin at his lap.
"Hello father." Lorelei said with a head bow.
"Rory, Victoria." Richard said as he started to eat some of his food.
"Hi grandpa." The twins chorused with a smile as they ate.
"Tristan." Richard said with an almost glare.
"Hi Richard." Tristan said nervously.
"Rory, may I speak with you for a moment, please?" Richard said almost as nervously as Tristan spoke only moments ago.
"Okay." Rory said getting up from her seat and following Richard outside.
"Hm. Wonder what that's all about." Lorelei said to none in particular. "I guess we'll find out later." Lorelei continued as she looked at her own mother, who solely continued eating. "Hey whatever happened to XuXa?" Lorelei asked as Emily gave her a pointed look.
"So, Victoria, when are you starting summer classes?" Emily asked as Victoria dapped her face and smiled.
"Well, I'm taking English, Foreign Language and Social Science. Since those will be less stressful and I can complete those until baby is due. Then I can go through and finish with my Calculus, Physics, Biology and climatology courses." Victoria answered and than she continued to eat.
"Tristan what about you, what are you doing?" Emily asked as Tristan nodded.
"Well, I'm working for my dad as his assistant to get some cash until I can take classes at Harvard. Then, when I'm eighteen I plan on joint the military, to hopefully get some good heath insurance for Victoria and the kid." Tristan said, this made Lorelei smile, before she got sad. How could she make up to Victoria?
"That's wonderful!" Emily cheered for the two as they both smiled, they held hands under the table. Then there was silence, Emily continued to eat and Lorelei just picked at the food. Victoria and Tristan continued to eat (although Victoria had almost no food left on her plate) with the two ladies at the dinner table.
"Hey, where are you guys going?" Lorelei asked as Richard and Rory walked by. They were walking to (where Victoria presumed) Richard's study. For what, Victoria didn't now.
"We'll be right there!" Richard called back with a smile.
"Well, hurry! You're missing one hell of a conversation." Lorelei said, not paying any mind to the fact that Emily had asked about her oldest daughter. Why did her mother care so much, Lorelei refused to ask. "You know mom, I'm really loving this salad dressing."
"I'm glad." Emily snipped as she continued to eat what was nearly left on the plate.
"Lemony." Lorelei said as she stared at her mother, her plate still full. Emily, who didn't pay much mind to Lorelei, responded with a quick 'yes' before continuing to eat. "Nothing like a nice salad of lemony goodness." Lorelei stated to none in particular. There was a long silence as Lorelei stared at her own mother, to which Emily sighed deeply. "Mom." Emily nearly acclimated her daughter, only giving her a grunt of acknowledgement.
