"You know what Alice?" He then suggests. "How about you meet my family? They are sitting right there." He points to the farthest table where a upper-thirties woman and two look-a-like elementary schoolers sat.
"Don't you think this is too soon? Like, we aren't even official." I point out. He turns me to face him as he gets down on a knee. My eyes widen as I see him take something out from his back pocket. Now, he is really taking things too fast!
Uncontrollably, tears start falling out of my eyes as he slowly moves the item towards me. I clasped my hand over my mouth as I feared I would squeal. Well, I didn't know I would even squeal to be quite honest. Suddenly, I heard an elderly yell, "Look everyone! He's proposing!"
Very quickly, I felt all eyes on me as the buffet went silent.
"Will you-" He pauses as he fumbles to open up a-wait, a ring pop wrapper? This must be a joke. I had always thought I would be engaged with an engagement ring, not an edible pop! Plus, I thought I would be stuck with Daniel, not this sweet teenager whom I barely even know.
He finally opens up the wrapper, which revealed a red and green swirled pop inside.
"Will you be my girl-friend Allison Parker?" Gavin finally asks. Relief washed through me as I happily thought he wasn't going to ask me to marry me.
The hardest part is how to tell him 'no'? There's no way I was going to date someone I might not even love in the first place. I just met him a week ago, and all I really know about him is his favorite color (blue), favorite flower (tulip), where he goes to school (something with Hills), his favorite food (corn)....wait....I do know a lot about him. This mental list could go on, but I've spoken to him every night since he asked me out on a date and I found out a lot of things even some weird ones. Like, he sleeps with a stuffed animal named Ruby since it's the only thing he has of his dad before he passed.
Now I wanted to say 'yes', but I am no good for him. Ballet would get between us and I can't put him in that position if he truly loves me.
But this was different. I want to be with Gavin. When Claire wasn't able to answer her phone, Gavin was just a phone call away.
He is there for me, but I am just too afraid that I won't be there for him. Maybe-
"Ahem." Gavin interrupts my thoughts and I was soon brought back to reality. He was patiently waiting for an answer as he held the ring pop in one hand.
"Yes." I hesitate. He smiles, which shows his luscious dimples, and slips on the lollipop ring. He then stands up and slams my body onto his and kisses me.
Suddenly, a wave of clapping erupted all around us as I savored this moment. I kissed him back and wrapped my arms around his neck as we start making out.
First, it was gentle, but then our lips smashed harder together as they moved to a rhythm. I felt my legs go jello like as we continued. He was a great kisser, no doubt about that.
We soon parted, which left us both panting. A grin never left either of our faces as we slowly backed up a little bit from each other.
"So we are official?" I ask as a smile never leaves my face.
"Yes, Alice, we are official," he confirms and kisses me one more time before our hands clasped together. In one swift movement, we raised our connected arms together and everyone clapped some more. I scanned the crowd and spotted, what I assume, is his mom smiling at me with tears trickling down her cheeks.
I guess meeting his family won't be terrible as I thought.
"Mom meet Allison Parker."Gavin introduces me to a very light blonde lady, which shared his brilliant blue colored eyes. "Allison meet Hillary Halls."
"Nice to meet you, Mrs. Halls." I smiled and offered my hand to shake, but instead of shaking it, she embraced me in a bone-crushing hug. A fresh wooden smell wafted into my nostrils. I guess she likes me then. "Call me Hillary." She whispers and lets go of me.
"And these are my brothers." He points to one of the brown haired twins with auburn eyes. "That's Jeremy Jr.." He then points to the other one. "And that's Logan."
"Jeremy, Logan, meet my girlfriend." He pauses as I mentally repeat how he called me his girlfriend. "Allison meet my brothers who are twins."
"Hey!"They cheered and each gave me a hug around my waist due to their shortness.
"They like you," Gavin observes with a chuckle.
"So, are your parents here?" Asked Hillary as she sat down along with Jeremy. Gavin took a seat beside me and slipped his hand intertwined with mine. I grinned at him as he did back and then wondered what I'd say about my parents. Should I lie and say that they are just in the bathroom. Or do I speak the truth?
"No." I faintly say and adjusted my dress.
"Do you have grandparents here? Aunt? Uncle?" Hillary questions on.
"No, it's just me here." I shrug and took a sip of water.
"How..." She says mostly to herself as her eyebrows furrow in frustration. I realized she was the type of person who wants answers to everything. She is most likely in the forensic business. I whisper my thoughts to Gavin and he shrugs. Polar opposites I guess.
After chattering between the twins, I realized Gavin's ex-step-father was nowhere to be found. I say my thoughts again to Gavin. Surprisingly, he didn't shrug.
"He is with his mistress this weekend at his other house," Gavin speaks quietly.
"Wait, he owns two houses?" I asked him, and then immediately regretted it. It was none of my business.
"Well, yeah." He shrugs like its no big deal. "He is the rich and famous William Joyenne for peace sakes."
"Wait, your ex-step-father is my step-father?" I asked with my eyes widened.
"Your mother is his mistress?!" He frantically asks. I take a big gulp and nod. Wow, my mom is a mistress. Who knew?
