Jake's breath caught in his throat as he found himself in the corridor with the sound of Willa smashing objects and swearing in the room behind him.

"So damn inconvenient!" he heard her hissing.

The lights had come on inside the building and it was just now he could finally see some of the patrol officers' bodies, which had been dragged into the corridor by Willa in the dark.

They were all either leaned up against classroom doors, spread hastily over the floor, one even impaled on a marble statue Jake had never taken notice of before, but now couldn't get the sight out of his mind, the white, clean rock stained crimson.

Jake's stomach lurched at the sight, a cold sweat coming over his face and dripping down his nose as he held onto his arm.   Was he truly the only one left?

Before he could dwell on that terrifying thought for a second, he heard the sound of a key being placed in a lock then came to a halting realisation.

Petrović had the key to the door on him.

From behind, the door swung open and Jake turned around just quick enough to move away as Willa lunged at him, looking more like a feral animal than a human in the bright, oversaturating light.

Jake cried out in terror, taking the sight in — she was holding the weapon they had both stabbed Petrović with and with her gaze cast upward with a deadly, dangerous glint in her eye, Jake fled.

His legs pumped desperately, the blood still flowing freely from his shoulder as he sprinted down the hall, only to trip on the stairs — it was then he realised his slippiness from before wasn't just from the rain, but from the blood of yet another officer, whose throat had been slashed at the top and was collapsed over, curled away from visibility.

As Jake stumbled down the stairs, his knees took the brunt of the damage, though the sound of Willa lackadaisically stalking him from behind forced him to push through it, clambering to his feet as his bones complained.

"C'mon, Jake!" she called playfully, "Isn't this getting a little silly now?"

Jake didn't answer, just hobbled his way back outside from the main door, trying to make it to the main gate.

Rain lashed down on him as he reached the front, though to his frustration, it was locked, and with the weather and the condition of his arm, there was no way he would be able to climb over.

The cut, he thought, then turned around, only to suddenly realise Willa was no longer in pursuit of him, and no longer in his line of sight.

His breath trembled in confusion and fear, tears mixing with the rainwater on his cheeks — there was no way she'd let him go so easily, especially with the police less than ten minutes out.

He wasn't sure what to do — to wait here by the gate like a sitting duck until the police arrived, or try to escape and risk getting jumped by her.

Part of him was almost too scared to move, trembling and frozen to the spot, but the eerie silence, interrupted only by the pattering rain, made the idea of staying in place sound just as bad, if not worse.

Warily, he started edging around the building, until the trees that made way to the cut were finally in sight.

If he could make it out to the road, perhaps he could get some help, or could at the very least get out of there, away from his attacker.

Just as he was about to run towards them, however, Willa ambushed him, running in from the side to tackle him to the ground.

Jake cried out in pain as his shoulder hit the ground — it was a familiar feeling, being knocked down, someone loming over him with murderous intent.
