"HEY, WHO WAS THAT guy you were talking to at the register earlier? Seemed like you two got along pretty well." Indigo walked by with a smirk, bumping her shoulder while holding a box full of 'Love, Theoretically' by Ali Hazelwood.
They closed about an hour ago, and Indigo was the only one who could stay late to restock. It usually wouldn't take this long, but none of the cafe employees were scheduled to close so now it was just the two of them closing for both the bookstore and the cafe.
The manager of the cafe was pretty unreliable, and Layla and the co owner, Abigail, were currently looking for new candidates to fill the position. And Abigail was only in part time since Layla insisted she could take care of it.
But the guy from earlier was still swirling in the back of her mind, and she immediately put in an order for the rest of the book collection he asked for earlier. She wondered what he did for work if they were just playing Five Nights at Freddy's. It sounds like it happens a lot.
Oh how she wishes they could just sit and play video games while on the clock. Maybe they could eventually afford to be like that aisle at Target where you can just sit and play games on the Nintendo Switch.
Although Layla enjoyed sitting in the comfort of her own home and playing games on her little setup in her guest bedroom. It was comforting to just sit with a few candles burning with the light from the TV and playing Animal Crossing into the late hours of the night.
Layla wasn't lonely, she just enjoys her simple games and alone time.
She shrugged, finishing up counting the cash in the register. "We were just talking about FNAF, that's it. His job involves something with gaming I'm pretty sure."
"Google him!" Indigo yelled from now across the store, stocking those books in their respective spot, which was in the popular romance section right by the front door.
Layla scoffed. "I didn't ask him for his name. Not like we have a rewards program set up and I could get it."
The brunette ran around the corner and up to the front counter where Layla just closed the last register. "We can get one set up, you know. My brother does some shit with websites."
"And that could take forever. I don't really care to get his name, Indi." Layla crouched down, grabbing the box from under the counter and restocking the paper bags onto the hooks.
"No matter what you say, I'll find his name." She said while she already began to walk back. "But he does seem kind of familiar."
"Don't be creepy." Layla says, not even batting an eye in the other girls direction while she continued with the task in front of her.
Indigo yelled from her previous spot in the store. "No promises!"
The two girls only ended up being there for another hour, it just hitting nine o'clock since the store closed at seven. Layla had a calm drive home, only living about seven minutes away from the store.
The streets were surprisingly empty for the hour and it being a Saturday night. She was playing her music softly, getting over a headache from their late night rush. Really Saturday's as a whole are a rush.
When she got back home, her two cats, Romeo and Cersei, immediately greeted her at the door. They followed her into the kitchen, where they non stop meowed until their food bowls were filled.
Of course her two cats took priority in eating over her. Even though she hadn't had anything since that iced coffee Hanah brought her, the cats will not leave her alone until they're fed. And they still had some food left over from this morning.
As she cooked herself a quick dinner, she still couldn't get the guy with dark curly hair and glasses out of her mind. He was one of the few customers in Los Angeles who actually made an effort to form any real conversation, which is something she really appreciated.
There was something so familiar about him, but she just couldn't figure it out. She feels like she's met him before. A strong feeling in her chest wanted him to come back to the store everyday just to talk to her.
But then she was brought out of her trance, the sound of metal bringing her back to reality. The food bowl was now on the floor, and the cats scurried away quickly.Layla was silently thanking the universe for that bowl being empty, as she didn't feel like picking up cat food off the floor.
"I don't know how you two managed to clear those bowls so quickly."
She picked up the bowl off the floor, setting it back in its rightful spot next to the other, then grabbed the third bowl and filled it up with the filtered water spout on the sink.
While dinner was finishing up on the stove, she turned on the standing lamp in the corner of the living room and lit two of her identical candles, setting one on the side table and the other on the coffee table that was separating the couch from the TV.
She got comfortable on the couch once dinner was done, and put on Netflix, opening up Bridgerton. It didn't take her long to finish eating her food as her stomach was currently empty, but she just set her plate down on the table in front of her, laying down to continue on the episode she was on.
Layla was getting tired, but she was almost done with season two. And with the third season coming out soon, she didn't want to turn it off just yet.
Luckily on Sunday they opened up later at eleven, so she had time to do the chores she was supposed to do tonight, in the morning which had been stressing her out all day. But her tired state was getting in the way.
The decision was easy to make though, she'll just get up a little earlier and do the things she needed to.
But quickly, she was fast asleep on the couch, her two cats cuddled up next to her as the TV continued to play.
