Blake
“So what are you studying?” Jay asks Aaron once we are all seated around the dining table for lunch.
“Engineering Ma’am. I’m hoping to get into Mechanical, like Avery” he says, smiling at Aves.
“Tell me about your family. Who are your parents?” She asks
“My parents are Susan and Anthony Benson. Born and raised in Christchurch. I have 3 older brothers. Paul, Lucas, and Peter, Ma’am. My parents raised us all Christian in a small town.”
”They have a nice university in Christchurch. What made you want to study in Auckland?”
”The university of Auckland is the top university in New Zealand Ma’am. And I’m glad I did because I never would have met Avery. She’s really the best” He says, looking at her dreamily.
“Are you saying she’s the best because you’ve tried all the rest?” Jay questions.
”Of course not Ma’am. My parents never raised us like that. They taught us the importance of having a good woman by our side. That in order to have the best we needed to be the best. To save ourselves for marriage.” I have no idea if this guy was bullshitting right now or not but damn he was good. Avery was blushing like crazy and mum was just smiling at her and Aaron. I think it’s safe to say that mum approves of him.
“What were you raised in 1856?” Liv asks.
“Liv, I’m doing all the questioning now. You will have your turn later.” Jay says, dismissing her.
”So tell me Aaron what are your plans for after university?” Jay asks.
“Well originally I wanted to work for this company called Culham Engineering but Avery and I have been talking and we think we might have come up with a good idea that if we start working on now, we should be able to perfect over the next three years. We will be able to revolutionise the automotive industry if it works. I really want to work on it with her. We make a really good team and I’m certain we’d make a fortune from it” he says “It was mostly Avery’s idea but I mentioned ways we could improve it. We’ve come up with some rough sketches so far. We’re still in the ideation phase but I think we can pull it off,” he says. “Of course all credit will go to Avery. It was her idea.”
”It’s our idea now. You’ve made it so much better than my original idea,” she says, smiling at him,
“Honey, that’s enough interrogation. He’s here all weekend. Let’s just enjoy our lunch and some light conversation.” Mum says. “Aaron sweetie, what do you like to do with your time off?” She asks.
“I like doing a whole bunch of stuff, going to the gym, playing Xbox, hanging out with my brothers and friends and of course Avery.”
”Do you like drawing?” Jamie asks.
“I do actually. I like coming up with new designs and concepts.”
”Oh you mean like a inventor?” Jamie asks, her eyes lighting up.
“I guess Engineers are kind of like inventors,” he says, chuckling.
“Can you help me come up with a invention?” She asks.
“Sure, maybe we can design some stuff for your buddy over there” he says, pointing to Benji who was perched on her shoulder.
”Really?” She asks so excitedly, it was so damn cute.
”Really Jamie. Avery can help us too, she’s really good at it” he says. Smooth Aaron. Real smooth.
After lunch Aaron actually helped us clean up which really surprised Jay. But I guess if he only had brothers chances are he would have either had to help his mum or his mum did everything. I’m guessing he was the kind of guy to help his mum out. Then Jamie pulled him and Avery into the lounge where she opened up her new sketchbook Amelia had bought for her birthday and a whole bunch of felt tips. Jay watched carefully as he interacted with Jamie and I think it was safe to say Jamie had a new bestie. I think she liked him more than she actually liked Avery. Aaron explained to her how they put the ideas on paper first and then engineers have to figure out how everything is put together and how they will work in real life and so they have to make prototypes. She was absolutely fascinated. He also explains that normally these ideas come from the fact that there is some need that is not being met in the market or you need something that doesn’t currently exist or something that does exist but could be made better. Then he asked what she thought what Benji might need or like or what she wished she had so that it would be easier to look after him. She sat and thought about it for a while until she finally came up with an idea.
