Infected: Chapter XXIII

I am strolling around a run-down, crappy tent camp that is strewn awkwardly with forest-green tents. Jess squeezes my hand as she sees a tent that has a swollen, bloody body poking out of one of the entrances. The man has blood streaking down his face and is making weird gurgling sounds. Jess is starting to hyperventilate, tears are welling in her majestic sky blue eyes. I turn around and squeeze her tight like a hot-water bottle, "Jess you have to calm down, we're okay!" I feel her shaking like a dog and I lean in and kiss her on the cheek, "okay?" I ask, she nods and we keep walking. Jess and the nurse attending to me have explained that I had just come out of a small coma; one of their camp's scout squads saw us both being pulled away by a zombie towards ' the zombie village ' so they beat the zombie to death and brought us back to this hospital area.

People in official uniforms start to bolt past Jess and I, holding salads of grenades, handguns and sub machine weapons. They are wearing menacing black helmets and goggles, "What's going on?" Jess and I ask in unison, none of the men answer. People are crwling out of the forest of tents looking confused. Jess sprints after the men in uniforms and I quickly dash after her.

A lady in a white lab coat is surrounded by the men and suddenly she stands up on a decrepit milk crate and holds a sky-blue megaphone to her lips, "Jess and Finn?" she asks shakily. We walk to the crowd of men and the lady as the crowd that has formed clears a road for us to walk through.

The lady crouches down and whispers barely loud enough to her, she briefly introduces herself as Jane, the leader of survival camp. "The zombie's nest is deserted, all the zombies have left the camp entirely, every single one." I look into Jess' eyes she looks just as confused as I do. "We sent one of our scout teams to follow them and they found them to be heading towards your sister and brother." she continues. "We have reason to believe that the entire zombie hoarde is going to kill your siblings, but we do not know why." Says Jane, abruptly ending the conversation. She straightened as Jess' eyes rolled into the back of her head as she falls to the ground. I grab her in my clutches as tears start to stream from my eyes
