Billie Eilish sits next to me, and I can sense her scent—a mix of vanilla and something indescribable that immediately captivates me. My brother sits across from her, chatting animatedly with our parents. Billie leans a little closer to me, and I can feel the warmth of her body.
"So, how do you like the food?" she asks with a mischievous smile, her eyes gazing deeply into mine.
"It's really good," I reply, trying to hide my nervousness. "How about you?"
"It's great," she says, "but I think the company makes it even better." Her hand discreetly brushes against my arm, sending a shiver down my spine.
During the meal, she keeps touching me lightly—a touch on the shoulder, a fleeting brush of her fingers against my hand as she reaches for the water bottle. I find my thoughts constantly drifting to her, and I struggle to focus on the conversation at the table.
The conversations at the table are lively, but I can barely concentrate. My brother is telling a story from his work, but I'm only half-listening. Instead, I feel Billie's gaze on me.
Suddenly, she leans closer to me, her voice barely more than a whisper. "I've wanted to tell you something all evening," she begins, and I see a sparkle in her eyes. "I know it might not be right, but I can't stop thinking about you. Every time I'm with your brother, I wish it were you."
I swallow hard, feeling my cheeks heat up. Before I can respond, I feel her hand on mine under the table. Her touch is gentle but firm. I glance quickly at my brother, but he seems oblivious.
"Billie, this isn't the right time," I say quietly, my heart racing. "My brother... our family..."
Billie smiles at me, her eyes gleaming with excitement and a hint of danger. She holds my hand under the table, her fingers tracing small circles on my skin. My brother, engrossed in a discussion with our parents, is unaware of the silent drama unfolding right in front of him.
"Tell me more about yourself," Billie suddenly whispers, her voice so low that only I can hear. "What do you do in your free time? What are your dreams?"
I clear my throat, trying to stay calm. "I... I play guitar and write a bit of music. Nothing special."
"Oh, that sounds wonderful," she says, squeezing my hand. "Maybe we could jam together sometime? I'd love to hear your music."
"That would be great," I say, feeling my heart race again. "I'd love to play with you."
As the conversation at the table continues, I repeatedly feel her eyes on me. She continues to touch me subtly, her fingers brushing over my palm or gently pressing against my knee. It's a quiet, secret game that draws us both in.
Then, as my brother gets up to get more water, she leans closer to me again. Her lips are so close to my ear that I can feel her breath. "I like how you react to me," she whispers. "It makes this evening much more interesting."
"Billie, we should be careful," I say quietly, but she just smiles.
"Where's the fun in always being careful?" Her eyes sparkle, and I can't help but be swept up in her energy.
My brother returns, and we continue our seemingly normal dinner, but the tension between Billie and me remains palpable. Her foot lightly touches mine under the table, and I respond in kind, unsure where this will lead.
As dinner winds down, and the conversations shift to the living room, Billie lets go of my hand as we all stand up. But before she leaves the room, she gives me one last meaningful glance. I know this is just the beginning, and though I'm aware of the consequences, I can hardly wait to see what comes next.
