rhaenys was hesitating.

daenerys knew rhaenys like the back of her hand. she considered her as her sister and she knew that her sister was scared of marriage. rhaenys didn't even have to tell her. daenerys just knew. she knew that her own marriage to khal drogo was not a good one and not a good example for the sweet rhaenys. so seeing her sister struggle, daenerys once again placed a comforting hand at her back and gave her a slight encouraging push in jon's direction.

"you must be the king in the north, it is very nice to meet you, your grace." rhaenys peered up at him through her thick, long lashes. her violet irises pierced through him. he had never seen any more beautiful eyes.

as soon as sansa realized jon wasn't going to say anything back to the princess, she interjected, "my queen, my princess, why don't my brother and i show you your quarters that will be yours for your stay here." as they walked through the corridors there was a still silence among them that was deafening. the group of four came upon what would be daenerys quarters first and she ducked into her new temporary room after saying, "thank you all so much for your hospitality but i truly am very tired and could use a little rest after all of our travels to get here."

after daenerys went into her room soundly and closed the door behind her, sansa turned to jon and rhaenys and said, "princess, i must take my leave, but it was very nice to meet you." rhaenys could tell that sansa was a well trained lady from the way she spoke and carried herself. she couldn't quite tell if the stark girl liked her or if she was just trying to be pleasant and proper towards the targaryens. sansa began to turn to walk away when rhaenys stopped her from getting any further. "my lady, you do not need to keep addressing me by any titles. we are to be family, and to be honest with you, i never liked them anyway." rhaenys said with a kind smile on her face, and sansa simply returned the smile and then walked away. rhaenys wanted all of the starks to like her if she was going to be a part of their family. besides her aunt daenerys and uncle viserys, she hadn't had a family in a very long time.

in silence, jon and rhaenys watched sansa walk away for a moment, until jon broke the silence with a simple question, "how are you princess?" as rhaenys gazed towards jon with her head tilted in an astonished manner, she was looking at him as if he were a mad man.

"great i suppose, for the circumstances we find ourselves in. however, i presume there could be far worse men to be betrothed to than you. at least you are handsome and kind, from what i can tell." she replied with a small laugh, after she decided to be blunt with him. when jon didn't say anything, she realized he was a man of little words. at least with those he does not know. instead of continuing to wait for some kind answer from him, she asked, "may you show me to my chamber, my lord?" jon just nodded.

"follow me," he said. the pair made their way down the corridor and turned down another hallway. they stopped in front of a door. "these are your chambers, your highness, for the time being. my chambers are across the hall if you need anything." jon told her. she took note in the way he said 'for the time being'. almost sorrowfully.

"thank you, my lord. also as i told lady stark, you do not have to address me by any titles. the truth is, i love being plain and simple rhaenys. i definitely feel more comfortable that way. i am not too keen nor have any interest in titles. i truly believe i have not done anything to earn them, and i have not even done enough to deserve them. all i have done is be born into the right family. or i suppose the wrong family now." rhaenys told him outside of her door as she spoke from her heart. it was now jon's turn to look at her with an expression of shock on his face as he took one look at her. he never fathomed that his future bride would be as down to earth as rhaenys has proven herself to be. when he pictured the targaryen princess, he imagined how the royal family had acted when they came to winterfell.

jon peered down at her and stared into her eyes. "princess, if you believe it or not, a great deal of word has been spread about you. about the lost princess. all the people in westeros have been made aware of the great victories that you and the queen have achieved across the sea. stories have spread about how you fought beside the queens as her equal. i would say that you have earned a title or two. the two of you accomplished great things, i doubt her highness could have done it without you by her side." jon told her sincerely. as rhaenys took in his kind words, she began to think about how no one has really spoken to her like that. holding her in such a high regard, in a way that made her feel almost as an equal to her aunt.

"thank you for your kind words. i will not forget them, my lord." she said bashfully with her head down. "princess, you told me to not address you by any titles and now i am asking you to do the same. honestly, i have not grown used to them yet and do not have a liking for them." he said. she finally looked up at him and smiled. "just jon and rhaenys sounds fairly nice." rhaenys giggled out.

"just jon and rhaenys." he said.

she liked the way her name sounded coming off of his tongue.
