as rhaenys was sitting on top of the furs on her bed, all that she could think about was jon. she was beginning to feel a fondness towards him. and she couldn't help but like his rough, northern accent.
the starks had planned a feast with some of the northern lords in honor of the targaryens coming north and to celebrate the upcoming nuptials. rhaenys then heard a sudden knock at the door and called out, "come in." the door opened and in came what appeared to be a handmaiden. "hi princess, i am arianne and i am your new handmaiden. i have been sent to help you prepare for the feast this evening." she said.
"hi arianne, it is very nice to meet you. i notice you have an accent that does not sound to be northern, are you not from here?" rhaenys questioned her new handmaiden. "oh, yes i am. i am from dorne princess. i came up north not too long ago." arianne responded to the princess's question.
rhaenys' mind immediately went to her mother. after nearly two decades since the ransacking of kings landing, rhaenys could hardly come up with a picture of her mothers face in her mind. she surely cannot remember her melodious laugh. times like these dampened her mood. she wished her mother could have been by her side throughout all that she has accomplished and all that she would in the time that would come. her mother won't see her get married, fall in love, or have children.
as soon as rhaenys snapped out of the trance she put herself in, it was decided by daenerys that rhaenys would be wearing a beautiful long golden gown for the night. if it weren't already clear that they were royalty, it would be after the people saw her dress. it was without a doubt going to catch the eye of everyone in the room. rhaenys was sure the moment her eyes hit the gown that she would stick out like a sore thumb.
by the time that her handmaiden had put the finishing touches on rhaenys' hair, there was a knock at the door. "arianne, may you get the door please." rhaenys asked as she continued to fidget with her hair while looking in her mirror. "of course, princess." as her handmaiden opened the door, rhaenys caught the view of jon snow in the reflection of her mirror.
"is her highness nearly ready to go to the feast?" he asked her handmaiden. "she is just about ready, your grace." she responded with a smile. rhaenys then stood from her chair and made her way towards the door. towards jon.
as she walked towards him, he felt as though he couldn't speak. his throat tightened up and all he could think about was how beautiful she looked in that moment. "you look beautiful, princess. would you allow me to escort you to the feast princess?" jon asked her. "oh thank you very much and of course you may. how could i ever say no to you?" she jested at him as she extended her arm outward towards him to hook his own arm through in which he took.
as they walked through the long halls with the grand hall set as their destination, jon had a simple question lingering on his mind. "are you excited for the evening ahead?" she had been questioning this as well. "honestly, i have been wondering about that as well. i have never been one to attract too much attention or to like it. however, daenerys made sure that i would tonight by picking this dress." she answered his question thoughtfully.
jon understood perfectly. as he grew up, he always hid in the back and rarely made his presence known. the late lady stark made sure he was never in the way. and now as king in the north, he feels as though all eyes are on him to see what his next move shall be. "i understand, rhaenys." he responded simply.
once they stood in front of the doors of the grand hall, rhaenys had felt herself tense up. as she was preparing herself to feel all the eyes upon her, she felt jon's hand squeeze her hand lightly. even he could sense her hesitations. "ready?' he asked.
as she nodded, the doors opened. as soon as they stepped foot into the hall, they saw all of jon's siblings and her own turn their heads in their direction. along with all the other guests. the pair made their way towards their families. rhaenys took a seat between daenerys and jon, and sansa sat across from them.
the food was being served around the room and the band began playing tunes. rhaenys turned her head and she was able to see sansa and arya whispering to each other. she could tell that the starks were a close knit family.
daenerys tapped her on the shoulder and rhae turned her head. "how do you like it here so far?" daenerys asked. "from what i have seen and the few conversations i have had, i like it. i think i could have a nice future here." rhaenys spoke truthfully. whether or not her and jon do end up falling in love, she knows he wouldn't mistreat her or do anything to disrespect her. she can tell he carries himself with honor.
even though she deeply hopes that they will fall in love and have a peaceful and happy future together, she cannot guarantee that to happen.
(her dress for the feast & tiara to go with)
question: should they take the stark name or the targaryen one?
