Truth be told

Chapter 5

After the bbq, Kai and Brendon cleared everything away. We took our chairs and sat around the fire pit. I was chilly now, so I went upstairs to get my hoodie. I came back down and smacked right into Brendon. It made me fall on my ass.
"Omg, I am so sorry, Lizzie!" He said, helping me back up.
"It's ok, Brendon." I laughed. I walked away from him into the yard. He followed me out, and he sat down on the floor as I sat on a chair. We had music again, but we were chatting, and the sounds of the ocean filtered through, too.
I could feel Brendon stroking my leg with the back of his finger. The sensation was making it hard to concentrate. After 15 minutes, I announced I was going for a shower and then to bed. I walked into the house and up to the bedroom. I put my speaker on as I got everything ready for my shower.
"My heart goes la da Di da....." I sang.
I went into the ensuite, turned the faucet on, and had my shower.
Afterwards, I crawled into bed and immediately fell asleep.

The next morning, I got up and went downstairs to make some coffee. The house was so quiet.
I sat on the patio and sipped my coffee. I enjoyed the sounds of the beach as I drank my coffee. I t was a little overcast today.
I felt someone come up behind me. It was Kaylin.
"You are up early, Kay." I said to her.
"I couldn't sleep." She replied.
"What's wrong?" Kaylin shrugged and sat down next to me.
"I like someone, but I don't know if they like me back." She explained.
"Guy? Girl?" I asked.
"Guy, this time." She laughed.
"Ohh, do I know him?"
"Very well." Kaylin nodded.
"Who is it?"
"It's awkward. And if I say I don't want it to affect our friendship."Kaylin said, looking out at the ocean. Now I was curious to know.
"Ok," Kaylin took a deep breath"its Kai." I stared at her.
"For real?" I asked. Kaylin nodded. "Why would it affect our friendship?"
"Cos you 2 used to date. I love you too much as one of my best friends to mess things up. Plus, if it didn't work out with me and Kai." Kaylin trailed off.
"Babe, listen," I held Kaylins hand and looked at her. " if you want to go for it with Kai, that's got nothing to do with me. Me and him were like a million years ago, or something. Yea, he was my first, and I am glad he was. I am glad it wasn't some jock or something. Me and Kai are in the past. Way in the past." I laughed. "I love him like I love you guys. As a best friend. I appreciate that you wanted to talk with me about it all. You really didn't have to. I love you more for doing it." I smiled at Kaylin, and we hugged.
"Thanks, Liz. You are the best." She said.
"Nope, you are." I said. As we sat there, the sky got more grey. Then it started to rain, very light drizzly rain. We went into the house for more coffee and sat in the living room. We were still the only ones up.
"You and Brendon then." Kaylin said, turning her body towards mine on the big cream coloured leather corner couch. I blushed when she mentioned Brendon.
"Are you a thing now?" She asked. I shrugged my shoulders.
"I don't know." I answered honestly. "We did some serious making out yesterday and we nearly fucked."
"Oh wow. And I know about the making out. We all do. This house isn't exactly soundproof."
"What?" I said. Kaylin laughed. "Yea it was kinda hard not to hear you. We had to turn the music up 3 times."
"I am so sorry." I apologised, feeling mortified.
"Liz," Kaylin said putting her hand in mine and squeezing it "you have nothing to be sorry for. It's fantastic to see you happy. We all agree that Brendon is a decent guy. He is so into you." I blushed and looked down at the couch. Kayling leaned forward and we hugged. As we broke apart Sarah and Caitlin came downstairs.
"Morning guys," we exchanged with each other. Sarah went to pour some coffee for her and Caitlin.
"So are you gonna make a move then?" I asked Kaylin.
"Move?" Caitlin said her head jerking up from her phone. Kaylin explained to her and Sarah about how she feels about Kai.
"Well, if we are confessing feelings." Sarah said. She held Caitlins hand and they both looked at us.
"Dude! You 2?" Kaylin asked.
They both nodded. I hugged them both.
"I am so happy for you guys." I said. We then discussed a plan so that Kaylin could be alone with Kai. "The beach is a no today, guys." We all looked out the window as the rain got heavier. It was pattering against the glass.
"Oooo I know." Caitlin said, she's a mastermind when it comes to plans to pair people up. Honestly she should have her own dating show. "Why don't the 4 of us drive into town and leave you 2 here? We need food for tonight's farewell dinner anyway. Plus we can have a really good look around the town. It's got a lot of history, I am told." We all agreed that it was a good plan. It would give Kai and Kaylin plenty of time alone, together.
I got up and went into the kitchen to make pancakes for everyone.
"Cait, can you wake those lazy boys up?" I asked. So Caitlin banged on the respective bedroom doors to get them up.

All 4 of us were dressed and ready to go. We got into Brendons car and left the house. Us 3 girls winked at each other. I turned the radio on. Uma Thurman by Fall Out Boy blasted out. We all sang along. We arrived at the little town, after 10 minutes of driving. We parked and got out of the car. Sarah and Caitlin linked arms. Brendon took hold of my hand and kissed it. I smiled at him.
We walked towards the harbour. It was still early, so there wasn't too many people around. Mainly locals. As we rounded a corner there was a little cafe. We were soaked through, so decided to go in here to dry off a little. I drank some hot chocolate as we 4 sat in a booth together. Brendon had his arm over the top of the booth.
As we chatted a couple of guys approached us.
"Hey ladies," a blonde surfer kinda guy said.
"Hi" we said in unison. The guy turned towards me. He went to tuck my hair behind my ear and I pulled back.
"Hey that wasn't cool." He said to me. This guy was clearly used to getting his own way with women.
"Yea? Well don't come up to me and start trying to touch me." I said.
"Sweetheart chill. You know you want me to." He said.
"I really don't though. Is this how you approach women? And it works?" I asked.
"W-well normally yea." He stammered.
"Mmhmmm. I don't believe that for a second. You are one of those guys aren't you?" I folded my arms.
"What guys?"
"Where you think because you are a good looking guy, you have a right to touch women all the time. Whether they want it or not."
"They never say no to Chad." He says pointing to himself.
"You did not just refer to yourself in the third person!"I said.
I laughed and shook my head. I got up from the booth and went to use the ladies' room.
As I walked away I heard Chad's friend trying to get him away from our table. Chad was now trying to pick a fight with Brendon, because I hurt his ego. I turned back around and stormed towards him.
"No no! You do not try to pick a fight with him because I hurt your ego by having the audacity to stand up for myself and say no to you!" Chad stumbled back a little. "Just fuck off Chad!"
Chad scurried away. His friend was about to apologise to us.
"Hey you did nothing wrong." Sarah said.
"Instead of apologising for his behaviour, how about you call him out on it?" Caitlin said."Tell him what an absolute dick he's making of himself before he finds himself up on assault charges."
He walked back to where Chad was sitting. I walked to the ladies room. I walked out and Chad was outside. The layout of the cafe meant that the ladies room wasn't visible to everyone. Chad got really close to me. He grabbed my face and forced me to look at him.
"Listen you smart mouthed bitch, don't you humiliate like that in public! I am Chad and that doesn't happen to me, like ever! No woman turns Chad down. They love me. Huh, nothing to say now have you? Now you don't have your friends around you. Typical. Only thing your mouth is good for is having my dick in it!" I wiped the spit from my eye. I gave him full eye contact.
"You do not respect women do you. As far as you are concerned women are just objects, for you to treat as you see fit. Tell me how many women have you forced to have sex with you Chad." Chad looked shocked that I was still standing up to him. He loosened his grip on my jaw and stepped back. I noticed a couple of women watching the scene.
"It's rape by the way." One of them said.
"You bitches need to shut the fuck up!" He was getting more and more frustrated.
"No means no and is a full sentence." The woman spoke up again.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!!" Chad yelled. The whole cafe went quiet.
"Wow Chad finally getting what's coming to you." I heard someone say. It looked like Chad was famous around here. And not in a good way.
"It's guys like Chad that wonder why we would choose that bear in the woods." I heard Sarah say. All the women in the cafe agreed. Chad backed away from me and ran out of the cafe. I walked back to our booth. I felt a little shaky after that encounter.
"You ok?" Caitlin asked as I sat back down. I nodded. Brendon put his arm around me and hugged me to his side.
