So I graduated along with my best friends. My mom was so proud of me. I filled her in on the truth about me and Brendon. After the ceremony we all went for food at a local restaurant. Brendon sat opposite, and I had my mom one side and Caitlin the other.
Sarah raised her water glass and toasted "to us. May our future be full of everything that we deserve." The 5 of us clinked our glasses together. "TO US!" we all chorused.
We chatted and ate our food. As we left the restaurant, we made plans to meet up tomorrow to sort another little vacation before college. As me and my mother and I entered the house, I took these damn heels off.
I was going on another date with Brendon tonight, and I was staying over. I ran up the stairs and into my bedroom. I took my graduation dress off and changed into sweats. I laid on my bed and started reading my book. I was listening to music on my speaker.
My phone buzzed. I looked, and it was a text message from Brendon confirming tonight's plans. We were having dinner and going to the movies. I replied back to him and carried on reading. I was totally engrossed in my book. My phone buzzed a few more times, but I ignored it.
I eventually picked my phone up, and I had a few dirty texts from Brendon. I answered him back with a few dirty texts of my own. I smiled at the last one I sent.
I got back into my book. After an hour or so, I went downstairs to get a drink. I realised that Mom wasn't home. I didn't hear her go out. I shrugged my shoulders. I put my foot on the first stair when someone knocked on the door.
I went to answer it. I opened the door and there was a guy who stood there.
"Can I help you?" I asked.
"Elizabeth?"
"Er yea, that's me." I answered.
"Elizabeth! Look at you all grown up." He opened his arms. I just stood looking at him.
"I don't mean to be rude, but who are you?" I said.
"Beth, it's me, your father."I looked perplexed that he had just turned up out of the blue after 18 years. Basically, he left before I was even born. My mother never spoke of him. Negatively or positively. When I asked as a child, she told me the truth. So I just adapted to not having a father around. My mom never had any more relationships either. When I got older, I tried to encourage her to, but she just wasn't interested.
"Oh, I see." To me, he was just a stranger on our doorstep.
"Aren't you going to invite me in?" He asked.
"Well, no. I don't know who you are."
"Your father. That's who I am."
"You are a stranger to me." I replied back.
"Did your mother not tell you who I am? Show you any photos?"
"No."
"Oh." He looked a bit crestfallen. Honestly, what did he expect?
"Look, I will call my mom." I said. I took my phone out of my pocket and called Mom. She answered, and I explained what was going on. Mom was at Walmart getting some groceries.
"I won't be too much longer." She said.
"Mom, what do i do? Do I let him in?."
"No, honey. Tell him to go sit in his car or something."
"Ok," I said, and we said our goodbyes. I relayed the message back to this man. The man walked back to his car. He did not look happy. I returned back into the house.
20 minutes later, I heard raised voices. I looked out of the window and saw my mom arguing with this man. I stepped outside.
"Aaron, you can't just turn up here after all this time expecting a wholesome welcome. Liz doesn't know who the hell you are."
"Yea l know. You certainly did a good job with that!" Aaron spat at my mother.
"You do not get to turn this around on me. I had to run away when I was pregnant. I wanted us to be a family. When Liz asked about you, I told her the truth, and that was the end of the subject. You never came up in conversation because I never spoke about you, like ever!"
Aaron looked taken aback about what Mom said. I noticed the time and went back into the house to get ready for my date. I changed into my "In my Eras era" shirt, dark blue skinny jeans, and black vans. I pulled my long auburn hair into a high ponytail. I did my makeup and sprayed a little perfume. I put my pleather jacket on and picked my overnight bag up. I set it by the door whilst I put my phone and keys in my pocket. Mom was still arguing with Aaron. He kept gesturing towards the house. As they were talking, I saw Brendon pull up and get out of his car. He greeted my mom. She greeted him, and Aaron went to introduce himself. My mom told him no. She shooed him towards the door, and he knocked. I opened the door, and we kissed.
"Hey Lizzie. Who's that guy?" He asked me.
"It's a long story, Beebo." I replied. I picked the overnight bag up and closed the front door behind me. "Bye, Mom. Love you."
" I love you too, honey. Have a good night, and I will see you tomorrow. Don't do anything I wouldn't do." She winked at me. I blushed.
"Mom!" She laughed as Brendon opened my door for me.
As I went to get in the car, I heard Aaron saying something about letting me stay at my boyfriends and that my Mom wasn't very responsible. I got back out. I stared at him. Brendon looked at me.
"Babe, what's wrong?" He asked. I walked back up the garden path. My mom knew what was coming.
"Who the fuck do you think you are?" I said to Aaron. He looked shocked.
"W'what? You shouldn't talk to your father like that!" He tried to chastise me. I laughed.
"Oh no." My mother muttered.
"You are not my father! You are just some stranger called Aaron who, after 18 years, has decided to turn up. Who has decided after my mom has raised me for the past 18 years to appear. After my mom put all the hard work in." I vented. Aaron went pale. Brendon stood there with a smile on his face as he watched the scene unfold. "You don't get to judge any of Mom's parenting. Besides, I am 18 now, so I am responsible for my own decisions. I am old enough to vote, rent a car and fuck anyone I choose to." I looked at my mother. "You ok?" I asked her.
"Yea yea, I am good. You get yourself over to Brendons. May you fuck each other's brains out good tonight." She laughed.
"Ew, Mom, but thanks, we will." I chuckled and went back to Brendons car.
We drove away and towards Brendons' apartment. I explained what had happened with Aaron turning up.
"Why turn up after all this time?" Brendon wondered.
"No idea. If he was trying to make a good impression, then he has failed. Anyway, let's not talk about him. Let's enjoy our date night."
We had a great date night went back to Brendons and fucked each other's brains out.
