No one told you to do it for the plot. You didn't know anyone yet.
First day in high school was a chance for you to create your own story again. No past. Just now and what future brings.
You made some friends along. You still did not feel like you fit into that kind of people. You were different.
It was the first time in a while when you doubted yourself again. High school kids seemed to be just better than you. Better-looking, more confident.
You were just not it.
High school was the time when you decided to get your shit together because you're gonna be stuck in endless circle of disappointment if you won't.
You couldn't let it happen. It was your fresh start.
You thought you were different back then because you've been through a rough time. But we all have experienced bad things in our lives.
You had your strategy. You couldn't stay quiet because that would make you look like a weird freak with no friends. You couldn't be too loud because that would make you annoying. You had to find the middle ground, the golden mean.
You thought it worked but soon you found out that not being yourself makes you hate yourself even more. It was the moment you started to lose your confidence.
But how can you lose something that you never had?
Only few stayed by your side when you stopped being your fake self.
You're grateful for those people till this day.
But you miss times when you had more acquaintances than close friends. You felt more seen that way.
But you know you're better of without them, don't you?
After all highschool isn't that bad.
You just have to find the right people and learn to listen only those who mean something to you.
The rest don't really matter.
