My mother walked back and forth in the living room, her footsteps quick and agitated. Her facial expression was filled with anger.

"You are not going to no fucking party Dani!" She spat

"Why not!?" I yelled back

"A party?! And you!?— oh come on, that does not sound like you! Who the fuck peer pressure you about this mess?" My mother continue to rant.

"No one! It was my idea to go!"

"To go?!—You're not fucking going Dani." My mother yelled

"You can't keep me in this toxic ass household forever." I said out loud.

"Toxic!? I'm far from toxic!" She yelled again.

"I wish Dad was here! He  would've of let me go!" I said

"Excuse me?"

As my mother's temper flared and she became enraged, me bringing up the sensitive topic of my deceased father touched a nerve from my mother. Her anger reached a boiling point,  she began chasing me up the stairs. I quickly ran to my room, adrenaline pumping through my veins, and locked the door behind me.

"Open the fucking door you slut!— you want to be grown and go to parties?"

"I'll show you grown then!"

"Mom you're drunk!—please." I said sitting against the door.

My mother continued to repeatedly kick the door, her anger still palpable in her actions. I desperately pleaded with her to stop while remaining hidden behind the locked door. Her relentless pacing outside of my room caused a mixture of fear and anxiety within me.

But As her footsteps slowly faded away, a sense of relief washed over me.

"Mom—I'm still going!"

"Fuck you!" She yelled back from a distance.

Despite my lack of experience with parties, I rummaged through my closet, flinging clothes out in desperation to find something suitable. The contents of the closet lay in a heap around me as I frantically searched for the perfect party attire.
