If you told Felix it was gonna be a beautiful day as soon as he woke up, he would've believed you right away. He had a great breakfast and was even wearing his favorite hoodie today, but all that came crashing down when he stepped foot into 'Sugary Sweets Bakes & Coffee' for his morning shift and was instantly welcomed with a line almost out the door and people screaming at each other.

He sighed, trying to keep his positive attitude before making his way into the back where his other 2 coworkers were running around like lunatics trying to get everything done since they were short staffed at the moment.

"Felix! Stop standing around and help me idiot!" Felix heard one of them yell, making him hurry and put his belongings down before grabbing his apron.

"What should I do?"

"Manage the register, people are brutal today and I need a break," Said Peter who was currently putting together a very complicated coffee order.

Felix enjoyed working here, he really did, it was a cute little cafe that was usually quiet and he loved his coworkers, but he hated it on some days, like today.

They usually weren't ever busy but once the traffic flowed it, it was exhausting, and people tended to get impatient so taking a deep breath, he put on a fake smile and went to help the next customer in line.

"Hi! What can I get you?" Felix asked as he watched the older lady give him a dirty look before mumbling out her order, making Felix strain his ears to hear but couldn't with everyone yelling in the back.

"I'm sorry ma'am, but could you repeat that a little louder? It's very noisy in here,"

That made the lady huff before glaring at Felix who just brushed it off until she actually spoke,

"God are you deaf? It's not that hard! I want a caramel macchiato with extra pumps of...."

Felix listened as the list went on and on about what adjustments she wanted making his fingers twitch while he wrote it down on screen.

"Will that be all?" He asked, still adorning a fake smile in hopes that the lady wouldn't get even more huffy but that didn't work.

"Of course that's all boy, why else would I have stopped. Service here really is bad," The older lady scowled, making Felix's smile falter just the slightest.

"We're doing the best we can ma'am, as you can see we're short staffed and it's currently rush hour, so if that's all please insert your card and you can go sit down," Felix spoke through his teeth, making the lady's face scrunch up in distaste before paying and walking away.

Felix sighed, already tired from only one customer and the line was getting longer. He also knew no one was gonna switch him to deal with the customers, so he once again put on a smile before turning back to get the next order.

It had been a couple hours in, and Felix was absolutely exhausted. The rush had gone down, but there were still lots of people coming in and out. Felix thought his head might explode from all the insults he had gotten today. The worst part was he had to close tonight too.

Another customer rang the bell making Felix groan before popping up from where he was sitting on the floor for a quick break. The guy looked nice, he had a cute little dimpled smile, making Felix genuinely smile for the first time today before speaking,

"Hello, what can I get you?"

"Hi! Actually it's my first day and I'm here for my shift," The man spoke making Felix sigh in relief since they would be getting one more person for help.

"Oh perfect! You can come through that door over there," Felix said, pointing at the little door just beside the big glass case displaying the different types of food they had.

The man smiled before making his way over and into the back to come stand by Felix who was telling the customer in front to hold on one second so he could go find the shift lead on duty.

Quickly walking into the back, Felix found them making more sweet bread and other pastry's,

"Lisa! The new guys here for his shift! Who's gonna train him?" Felix said, making the said girl lift her head up before pointing at Felix.

"You are, so hurry back out there," She said, looking back down after, continuing to ice some cookies.

Felix cursed, not in the mood to have to train someone but knowing there was nothing he could do about it, walked back out of the kitchen to see the new worker standing there, still with a smile on his face.

"So looks like you'll be stuck with me for a while. My names Felix, what's yours?" Felix asked before walking back up to the register to help the impatient mom with her kids standing there.

"I'm Chan! It's nice to meet you," Chan said making Felix smile once again before turning his attention to the customer.

This went on for the rest of the night, with the two males making small talk before Felix would show Chan what to do and how to do it, even making him taking some orders from the customers.

Felix really liked his new coworker, he was nice and very funny, and just seemed like a good guy in general. Once it was finally time to close, Felix ushered all the remaining people in the building out, before locking the front door and turning the sign to closed.

Lisa and Peter had already left, so it was just him and Chan who seemed eager to help in any way he could.

"So basically for closing, it's just what you'd expect. We clean everything and make things look nice for the morning staff tomorrow," Felix said making Chan chuckle and nod his head before the two started to tidy things up.

As Chan was wiping down the tables though, Felix couldn't help but notice that his knuckles seemed to be bruised and cut up. He tried to ignore since it wasn't his place to ask, but he was a little concerned for the other so he decided to speak up.

"I'm sorry for pointing it out, and you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but what did you do to your hands?" Felix asked, making Chan's hands stop mid wipe before continuing like nothing happened.

"Oh, it's nothing. I just accidentally hit something while walking and it bruised," Chan said, not looking up from where he was wiping making Felix narrow his eyes a little but brushed off the weird answer, deciding not to comment further.

There was no way that Chan could have got those by accidentally hitting his hand on something. He would have got those by purposely hitting something, but Felix couldn't guess what. However he left it alone since his coworker clearly didn't want to talk about it.

The two finished cleaning and getting everything together, so they both grabbed their things before heading out the door, Felix turning around to lock it and putting the keys in his pocket.

"Well, I hope you had a good first day today. It was very busy, but usually we don't get a lot of people, you just happened to come on the worst day," Felix said lightly, making Chan laugh and nod his head.

"I did, didn't I? Well I gotta get going, I have somewhere to be, but I'll see you hopefully tomorrow?" Chan asked, making Felix nod his head before waving goodbye and getting into his car to go home.

Felix rode in silence the whole way there, just sitting in his thoughts. He pulled up to his apartment building, parking his car and heading up to his room. He was on the second floor, making him groan cause of all the stairs he had to take.

When he finally got to his apartment, he unlocked the door, throwing his shoes off carelessly before walking over and flopping down on the couch, too tired to move to his bed.

Today had been a lot, but he was glad that Chan was now gonna be there. Felix fell asleep shortly after laying down, the last thing swirling in his mind before it shut off was of Chans mysteriously bruised hands.
