The walk back to the compound was tense and silent. Marcel walked beside Anna, his presence a constant reminder of the volatile peace they had just brokered. The forest seemed to hold its breath around them, as if aware of the fragile truce that now hung in the balance. Anna's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions, the adrenaline of the night slowly ebbing away, leaving behind exhaustion and a deep-seated anxiety.

As they approached the compound, the first rays of dawn began to break through the canopy, casting a soft, golden light over the scene. The imposing structure of the compound loomed ahead, a stark contrast to the wild beauty of the forest. Anna could see figures waiting at the gate, their silhouettes familiar and comforting, yet tinged with worry.

Elijah was the first to step forward, his normally composed face taut with concern. "Anna," he said, his voice low and strained, "you put yourself in great danger."

Anna met his gaze, her own eyes steady. "I had to, Elijah. We can't keep living in fear and mistrust. Someone had to make the first move."

Elijah's jaw tightened, a flicker of anger in his eyes. "And it had to be you? You risked your life, Anna. Do you understand what could have happened?"

Before Anna could respond, her parents rushed forward, their faces pale with worry and relief. Her mother, tears streaming down her face, pulled Anna into a tight embrace. "Oh, thank God you're safe," she whispered, her voice trembling.

Her father stood a step behind, his expression a mix of anger and relief. "What were you thinking, Anna? Going into the wolves' territory alone? Do you have any idea how dangerous that was?"

Anna stepped back from her mother, facing her father with a determined expression. "I know, Dad. But I had to do something. We can't keep living like this. The fighting has to stop."

Her father's eyes softened slightly, but his voice remained firm. "You're grounded, young lady. For a month. No arguments."

Anna opened her mouth to protest, but the look in his eyes told her it was non-negotiable. She sighed, nodding reluctantly. "Alright, Dad. I understand."

Elijah stepped forward again, his expression still troubled. "Anna, you need to understand the gravity of your actions. You walked into a volatile situation with no guarantee of safety. You could have been killed."

Anna met his gaze, her eyes unwavering. "I know, Elijah. But we made progress tonight. The wolves and the vampires are talking. It's a start."

Marcel, who had been watching the exchange in silence, stepped forward, his expression thoughtful. "She's right, Elijah. We did make progress. It's a fragile peace, but it's better than the alternative."

Elijah sighed, his shoulders sagging slightly. "I understand, but it doesn't change the fact that Anna put herself in danger. We need to find a safer way to handle these negotiations."

Anna looked around at the worried faces of her family and friends. She felt a surge of determination. "I want to help. You took me in, you protected me. This is my home now, and I want to do my part to make it safe."

Her mother nodded, a sad smile on her face. "We know, sweetheart. But you have to promise to be more careful. We can't lose you."

Anna nodded, her eyes shining with resolve. "I promise, Mom. I'll be careful."

Marcel glanced at Elijah, then back at Anna. "We'll need you for the negotiations, Anna. You have a way of bringing people together. But you'll need protection. We can't risk your safety."

Elijah nodded in agreement. "Agreed. We'll make sure you're safe, Anna. But you have to promise to follow our lead. No more going off on your own."

Anna smiled, a small but genuine smile. "I promise. I just want to help."
