After the party, Hazel walked home by herself. The whole thing was a waste of time. She only went for Johnny. As she was walking by the park, someone grabbed her by her shoulders and threw her to the ground, causing her to gain a cut on her forehead.
"What the fuck?!" She yelled in pain. She looked up to see Bob Sheldon. "Heard you were hanging out with Silver," Bob said, slurring his words. He was drunk. "What's it to you?" Hazel said, standing up, "I'll kill you if I see you hang with her. I'll make sure I'll leave a mark on you just like that other kid," Bob said.
"What other kid-" Bob pushed her to the ground again before she could say anything. She watched him walk to his car and drive off. Hazel tried to pick herself up, but she groaned in pain. Her ankle was sprained from the push. She started to walk, but her ankle was stinging in pain.
She only made it to the bench that was at the park. She sat down immediately to check her ankle, and it was swollen. It was a deep purple from where the sprain was. Before she could touch the sprain, she looked up to see if anyone was around, and she made eye contact with Dallas Winston.
"What are you doing here?" Dallas asked as he walked up to her, "I left the party since it wasn't fun, then I was walking and rolled my ankle," Hazel said as she rolled the leg of her jeans back down, "I don't think that's a rolled ankle," "You don't know shit Dal," "And what's with the cut on your forehead?" "What's with you in my business?"
"Listen, I'm just trying to help," "Why?" "Because I'm bored, got nothing else to do," "Well, if you really have nothing to do, maybe you can go back home," "Can't, Buck's not home and I don't have the keys to his house. Lemme see your ankle," "No," "C'mon, it ain't that bad," "Oh really?" Then explain this," Hazel said as she rolled up her leg of her pants again.
"Jesus Christ," Dallas whispered to himself, "Told you-" "How can you even walk?" "That's the thing dumbass, I can't. And it's past my curfew, so now I'll be grounded for the rest of my life," Hazel said as she rolled down the leg of her pants. Dallas let out a sigh, "Do you want me to help you get home?" "No."
"What- You just told me that you can't walk and it's past your curfew!" "I know, I just don't want you to know where I live," "Trust me, that should be the least important thing right now," Dallas said as he pulled out his hand, helping Hazel stand. He then fully picked her up so she wouldn't have to walk at all.
"What the fuck are you doing?" Hazel said, "I ain't letting you walk with that ankle," "Dal, I'll be fine-" "No you won't, you say that and then you scream at me for not fully carrying you," Dallas said as he started to walk, "Fine, just keep walking straight, and I'll tell you when to turn," Hazel said.
"And how was the party not fun? I had a blast," "Uh, Johnny literally left and I had a panic attack because I didn't know where he was," "You were fine," "How do you know?" "Because I saw you standing with Twobit and Steve," "Okay? Johnny literally told me he would stay with me until I was ready to leave."
"Hazel, you have to remember that his family is psychotic," "You do have a point, turn this way," Hazel said, pointing to the left. "Heard that you were hanging with a socs today," Dallas said as he turned, "Who told you that?" Hazel said, sounded confused, "Sodapop told me."
"Of course he did... Silver is actually a good friend, it's just that she's related to Randy," "Anderson?" "Yeah," "I hate that guy, he's an asshole," "And you aren't?" "Y'know that I can just drop you and make you walk," Dallas said with a cocky smile, "You better not," Hazel said.
They finally made it to Hazel's grandparents house. Dallas wakes up the porch stairs and set Hazel down gently so she could stand. "What are you doing tomorrow?" Dallas asked, "Why?" Haze asked as she opened the door, "Thought that we could hang," "Why?" "I dunno."
"Well, I'm going to the sewers with my friend at noon if you wanna join," "Really? The sewers? Ain't that filled with grey water?" "Why is everyone so worried about grey water... Yeah, so if you wanna come, bring your own boots, and a flashlight."
"Oh, you guys go in?" "Yeah, there's a spot where you can chill in there," "I'll think about it," Dallas said as he walked down the porch, "By the way, thanks for helping me out," Hazel said, "Don't mention it," Dallas said as he walked away. Hazel walked in the house to be greeted by her grandmother.
"Where were you?" Donna said, "I'm sorry! I wasn't watching the time!" Hazel said as she limped around, "What happened to you? Did you get into a fight?!" "No granny, I didn't, Someone accidentally shoved me, causing me to hit my ankle off of the curb."
"And who was that guy?" "Uh..." "Your boyfriend?" "No! Absolutely not! That's Dal-" "Dallas Winston?!" "And here we go..." Hazel mumbled to herself, "You're hanging out with that idiot?! You know he went to jail many times," "Okay, I'm not hanging out with him! He saw that I couldn't walk on my ankle so he offered to carry me back home."
"You better stay away from him! I mean it!" "Don't worry, I will, and I'm sorry for staying up late," "That's the least of my worries, you're back and safe, and show me your ankle," "Okay," Hazel said as she stuck out her leg, "Oh my god! Go lay in your bed, I know how to fix this."
The next morning, Hazel woke up and looked at her ankle. Whatever her grandma did, it was definitely magical. Her ankle was all healed up. Hazel got dressed in a nice white long sleeve shirt that was tucked into her jeans. She then put on her grandpa's huge flannel, then her boats, and she was out of her room. She grabbed her flashlight that was sitting on the table and left the house.
She made it to the sewer entrance, Jesse was already there. "Hey!" Jesse said, "Hey, by the way, I have something to tell you," Hazel said, "Oh? What's up?" "Okay, so you know how there was that party that happened last night?" "Yeah..." "So I went with Johnny, then he left me there so I had to walk home."
"Oh shit," "And then I decided to leave, when I was walking home, Bob Sheldon pulled up and pushed me, causing me to hurt my ankle," "What?!" "Yeah, but, Dallas saw me and-" "Wait, as in Winston?" "Yeah, lemme finish, so he saw me, and picked me up in bridal carriage and walked me home."
"Dallas Winston helped you?" "Yeah!" "Like, 'I hate that guy' Dallas Winston?" "Yes..." "Ew!" "I shouldn't say that," "Why?" "Because he's on his way," "Here?!" "Yeah..." "Hey, I love you Hazel, you're amazing and such a good friend," "I don't like where this is going," "But you're an idiot," "Saw that coming," Hazel said to herself.
"I swear to god, if I see that man come here, I will make sure that you drink this water," "I'll actually pass on that," Hazel mumbled, "Like what were you thinking?!" "He did say that he probably won't come too, so don't push it on me!" "I'm going to, for the rest of your life!" "Now that's hurtful."
After the sewer visit, both Jesse and Hazel were walking down main street. "Told ya he wouldn't come," Hazel said, "Yeah, whatever," Jesse said as she drank her cup of coca-cola, "Can I tell you something?" Hazel asked, "Yeah, anything," Jesse said with a smile, "I think that I like Dallas..."
"Like, dating?" "No, as a friend. While he was carrying me, he was really nice to me," "Was he drinking at the party?" "Actually, he wasn't," "Oh... maybe it's a sign to stop being assholes to each other," "I don't know. His personality can change at any moment," "That is true. Maybe talk to him more."
"Didn't you say that if Dallas pulled up to the sewer that you were gonna make me drink the water?" "I'm just trying to support my friend," "Speaking of friends, where the fuck is Silver?" "Now that you mentioned it, she hasn't phoned me back, I'll go see her, you wanna come?" "Her mom hates me, so I really shouldn't," "Okay, I'll phone you later..."
