After a grueling day filled with back-to-back meetings, endless paperwork, and unyielding deadlines, Caddion felt utterly drained. The demands of the corporate world weighed heavily on his shoulders, leaving him craving a momentary escape.
As he glanced at the clock, he noticed it was nearing six in the evening. The office, once bustling with activity, now seemed to be winding down, with colleagues trickling out for the day.

Caddion’s thoughts wandered to Percival, his new coworker who had joined the team only a few weeks ago. Despite the brief time they had known each other, Caddion found himself increasingly drawn to Percival’s calm demeanor and quiet strength.
He had noticed the subtle ways in which Percival navigated the office politics, always maintaining a sense of grace and composure.

On an impulse, Caddion decided to extend an invitation.
He walked over to Percival’s desk, his heart pounding slightly. Percival was hunched over his computer, his brow furrowed in concentration.
Caddion cleared his throat, catching Percival’s attention.

“Hey, Percival,”

Caddion began, trying to sound casual.

“How about we grab a drink? I think we both deserve a break after today.”

Percival looked up, a hint of surprise flickering in his eyes before he smiled warmly.

“That sounds like a great idea, Caddion. I could definitely use a drink.”

They gathered their belongings and left the office together, stepping out into the cool evening air.
The city around them was alive with the sounds of honking cars, distant chatter, and the hum of streetlights flickering to life.
They walked in comfortable silence, their footsteps in sync, until they reached a cozy, dimly-lit bar a few blocks away.

The bar was a hidden gem, known only to the locals.
Its rustic charm and intimate ambiance made it the perfect place to unwind.
They found a corner table, away from the chatter of other patrons, and settled in.
Caddion ordered a whiskey on the rocks, while Percival opted for a glass of red wine.

As they sipped their drinks, the initial small talk gradually gave way to deeper conversations.
They spoke of their lives outside the office, sharing snippets of their pasts, their passions, and their dreams for the future.
Caddion learned that Percival had a deep love for painting, a hobby he pursued whenever he could find the time. Percival, in turn, discovered that Caddion was an avid reader, with a particular fondness for historical fiction.

The more they talked, the more they realized how much they had in common.
Both had faced their share of struggles and setbacks, but they had emerged stronger and more determined.
Caddion found himself opening up about his insecurities, his fear of failure, and the pressure he felt to always be perfect.
Percival listened intently, offering words of comfort and encouragement.

“I know it’s not easy,”

Percival said softly, his eyes reflecting genuine empathy.

“But you don’t have to carry all that weight alone, Caddion. It’s okay to lean on others, to ask for help when you need it.”

Caddion felt a warmth spread through him at Percival’s words. It was a feeling of being understood, of not having to hide behind a facade.
He looked at Percival, their eyes locking in a moment of shared understanding and connection.

As the evening wore on, they found themselves laughing and joking, the earlier heaviness lifting.
They shared stories of embarrassing moments, childhood memories, and dreams they dared not voice before. There was an ease between them, a sense of rightness that neither could deny.

The bar began to empty, and they realized how late it had become. Reluctantly, they decided it was time to head home.
As they stepped outside, the night air was cool and crisp, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves of nearby trees. They walked side by side, the silence between them now comfortable and companionable.

When they reached Percival’s apartment building, they paused. Neither seemed eager to end the evening.

“Thank you for tonight, Caddion,”

Percival said, his voice soft.

“I really enjoyed it.”

“Me too,”

Caddion replied, a genuine smile spreading across his face.

“We should do this again sometime.”

Percival nodded, a hint of a blush coloring his cheeks.

“I’d like that.”

They stood there for a moment longer, the night wrapping around them like a gentle embrace.
Then, with a final smile, Percival turned and headed inside.
Caddion watched him go, a strange mix of emotions swirling within him. There was a sense of anticipation, of something new and wonderful beginning.

As Caddion walked home, his thoughts were filled with Percival. He replayed their conversations, the warmth of Percival’s smile, and the sound of his laughter.
He felt a flutter of excitement, a hope that this unexpected evening might be the start of something more.

That night, as he lay in bed, Caddion couldn’t help but smile.
For the first time in a long while, he felt a glimmer of happiness, a spark of something bright and hopeful.
He drifted off to sleep with thoughts of Percival, dreaming of possibilities and the promise of what tomorrow might bring.
