The sun had barely risen when Caddion received the call that would upend his world. He was in the middle of his morning routine, savoring a quiet cup of coffee before heading to the hospital, when his phone buzzed insistently on the kitchen counter. The number was unfamiliar, but something compelled him to answer.

“Hello, this is Dr. Caddion speaking.”

“Dr. Caddion, this is Nurse Jenkins from the emergency department. I’m sorry to call so early, but we have a patient here who’s requesting to see you. He’s in critical condition.”

Caddion’s heart skipped a beat.
“Who is it?”

There was a brief pause.
“It’s… it’s your father, Dr. Caddion. Emilio Yatheon.”

Caddion felt the blood drain from his face. His estranged father, Emilio Yatheon, had been out of his life for over a decade. The memories of their last encounter, filled with anger and bitterness, rushed back with a vengeance. He hadn’t even known if his father was still alive, much less that he would end up in his hospital.

“I’ll be there as soon as I can,” Caddion said, his voice barely above a whisper.

He hung up the phone and sat down heavily on the couch. The past he had tried so hard to forget was now demanding his attention, threatening to unravel the careful life he had built. He took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing heart. He needed to get to the hospital, to face whatever awaited him there.

When he arrived, the emergency department was already bustling with activity. Nurse Jenkins met him at the entrance, her face a mix of concern and sympathy.

“Dr. Caddion, your father is in room 3. He’s stable for now, but his condition is serious. He’s been asking for you.”

Caddion nodded, forcing his legs to move toward the room. He paused outside the door, taking a moment to collect himself. The man inside was a stranger to him now, but he couldn’t ignore the call for help. With a final deep breath, he pushed open the door and stepped inside.

Emilio Yatheon lay on the hospital bed, looking frail and worn. His eyes, once so full of fire, were now clouded with pain and age. He turned his head slowly as Caddion entered, a flicker of recognition sparking in his eyes.

“Caddion… my son,” Emilio rasped, his voice weak but unmistakable.

Caddion swallowed hard, struggling to keep his emotions in check.
“Hello, Dad.”

Emilio’s eyes filled with tears, and he reached out a trembling hand.
“I didn’t know where else to go. I need your help.”

The years of resentment and hurt bubbled to the surface, but Caddion pushed them aside. He was a doctor first and foremost, and his father was a patient in need. He stepped closer, taking his father’s hand in his own.

“We’ll do everything we can to help you, Dad. But first, you need to tell me what happened.”

Emilio nodded weakly, his grip tightening on Caddion’s hand.
“It’s a long story, son. I… I’ve made so many mistakes. But I’m here now, and I’m begging you for a chance to make things right.”

Caddion looked into his father’s eyes, seeing the regret and pain there. Despite everything, he felt a pang of sympathy.

“We’ll get through this together, Dad. Just focus on getting better.”
