Jeongyeon groans.
There was a light too bright, she could see the back of her eyelids. She could also feel heat on her face.
Is it morning already?
Jeongyeon sat upright with a start, gasping. She gasped again when she noticed she was not in her room. She almost clawed at her neck when she felt something constricting it from moving as she tried to survey her surroundings. She couldn't look down but after feeling up the material, she realized that it was a neck brace.
Her blurry eyes roamed around the room and she surmises that the interior was akin to that of a hospital room. It was quite spacious for a hospital room though and it felt more like high-end hotel suite. There was a seating area at the foot of her bed with a long, L-shaped sofa, two armchairs, and a modern glass coffee table. There was also a well-appointed workstation against the wall next to the seating area paired with a comfortable chair and a flat-screen TV was mounted above it. By the windows to the left of her was an overbed table.
There was a beeping noise to the side of her from a heart monitor. A plush armchair was positioned next to her bed and there was an imprint on the cushion, like someone had just been there.
She noticed something was attached to the back of her palm on the right hand and her breath hitched when she saw it was an IV cannula. It was secured by two pieces of masking tape.
She also felt a gentle weight on her ears and she was breathing in cool air. She lifted her left hand up to feel and trace it with her fingers, trying to make out what it was. The item was secured over her ears and when she followed the tube-like structure, she found there were two prongs attached and they were situated on each of her nostril. She realized then that she was breathing in oxygen through a nasal cannula. She didn't really get why it was necessary though as she felt like she could breathe just fine without it.
She jolted in surprise at the sound of a beep and heard a door open to the right of her. "Jeongyeon," she heard next. The voice was manly and raspy, like they had woken up not too long ago and their throat was parched.
She couldn't turn her head towards the person who was calling her. She raised her hand to rub her still blurry eyes so she could see them better but grimaced as there was a sudden pain on the back of her palm where the IV was located. She cried out and grabbed her wrist with her left hand.
"Careful!" the person admonished and in just three steps, they were beside her. From the corner of her eye, Jeongyeon could see their hand disappear behind her to rest on her back and assist her into laying back on the bed. When Jeongyeon could finally get a glimpse of their face, their hand reached for the button perched on her pillow and buzzered for a nurse.
"Try not to move too much," they advised, sitting down on the armchair.
"How long was I out, Youngdo-oppa?" Jeongyeon asked as she laid her head back on her pillow.
"All night," Youngdo replied, sitting back on the armchair and crossing his arms. "Do you remember what happened?"
Jeongyeon glanced at his expression for a split second before avoiding his inquisitive gaze. She swallowed a lump in her throat and nodded.
The affirmation made Youngdo nod but he didn't look satisfied with the answer. "Is there-"
He was cut off when there was a knock on the door and the head of a lady Jeongyeon has never met before peaked through. She smiled before entering the room. Jeongyeon realized she was the nurse as she was wearing mint green scrubs and a surgical mask. She had a stethoscope around her neck and her tri-colored ballpen was peaking out of her breast pocket. "Good morning, Miss Yoo. My name is Heran and I will be your nurse for today. Is there anything I can do for you?"
