Hello! We've reached the 20th chapter, and the end of the story isn't far off. Maybe 4 - 5 chapters before the end? ;)
Aaaand Enjoy!
Katniss
There weren't many tributes left before she could leave the arena. At least, that was what Percy said. So they were down to Marvel, Cato, a district four girl whom Percy said was called Sheryl, Foxface - who is actually Emily, and Thresh.
Just seven more tributes.
Except she wasn't excited to kill Thresh, not after he saved them from a Hydra. She had already lost Rue, who reminded her so much of Prim. Rue, who helped Percy recover his memories. She was too young to participate in the games, and too young to die.
Seeing Rue die in his hands and getting his memories back, Percy became more determined to stop the Hunger Games. He was fueled by anger at the Capitol, and wanted at all costs for the Capitol to pay.
Thalia and Nico, after watching their close friend nearly falling into the hands of the Capitol, were also filled with fury and rage at the gamemakers.
Katniss tried to imagine what was happening up at the gamemaker's control room at this moment. The head gamemaker, Seneca Crane, was probably sitting in his comfortable air conditioned room, thinking about the failure of his plan to turn Percy against his demigod friends. The Hydra hadn't worked either. Thresh had spoiled his plans by saving them. Rue had vaporized any hope he had by recovering Percy's memory. He would be racking his brains, devising new plans to kill them before the end of the Games. If that was the case, he didn't have much time.
They walked downhill, searching for a water source. But like the first day, there was no water to be seen. The sun beat mercilessly on their backs and even the grass had shriveled up. They only had a half-filled, one liter bottle to share among five people. Two days was all they had, max, before they eventually collapse of dehydration. The heat from the sun would just speed up the process.
Percy halted in his tracks, causing them to all stop. "There's no water source anywhere nearby. There's only one left, and it is the lake at the Cornucopia."
Both Thalia and Nico just stared at him.
"Okay... So we shouldn't keep walking further." Nico said.
It was clear what the gamemakers next move is.
"The gamemakers want to regroup everyone, just like the fire they sent. If that is the case, the lake at the Cornucopia would indeed be the only water source." Katniss explained.
Thalia shrugged and said, "Well, we have no choice then. We should go for the lake quickly. It's going to be a longer walk there."
"But we can't just go. All the careers would be there too." Peeta protested.
"And if we don't go, we will die from dehydration." Thalia cut in. "It is the only way."
Nico nodded. "But it is five of us, against three careers, Emily, and possibly Thresh. Shouldn't be a problem."
"And don't forget that three of us are demigods." Percy grinned.
Katniss agreed. It was the only way. It was exactly what the gamemakers had planned. Yet it was too risky. After seeing what the careers had done to Percy, who knows what they might do this time? What if it is irreversible?
"C'mon. We are losing precious time as we speak. Our water supply is running out." Thalia said, pulling Katniss out of her thoughts.
After three hours of non-stop walking, Katniss spotted the lake some distance in front, just outside the cover of the forest. Night had also fallen, casting all of them in shadows. The sky lit up, and the anthem played, adding two more tributes, Clove and Rue, to the list of dead tributes.
