Jungkook wasted no time in locking himself in his room, to the screams of his mother, who ordered him to return immediately. He slammed the door behind him, carefully locking it, and threw himself onto his bed. He buried his face in his pillow, trying to stop his tears flowing.

He knew it. He knew it would end like this. As he'd told Taehyung, there was no point going arguing with the Jeons. It was always just about Jongsu. In fact, he was surprised that his mother hadn't followed him and banged on his door until he opened it. Perhaps Jongsu had prevented him from doing so, obviously just to look like the affectionate brother worried about his twin.

In any case, one thing was certain: he didn't want to stay here another minute. This place wasn't his home anymore, and so for a long time now. Yes, now Taehyung was the only place he felt at home. Just the two of them, with no one to disturb them. Their own cocoon. His safe place.

He forced himself out of his reverie to grab his mobile from his pocket and hurried to dial his lover's number. The man picked up immediately, as if waiting for his call.

"Hyungie..." muttered the boy, on the verge of crying.

He heard the man sigh.

"Darling, I dropped you off just fifteen minutes ago..."

"So you don't want to come and get me?"

There was a blank, and Jungkook could already see the man shaking his head with a small smile on his lips.

"I'm already on my way, love."

And he wasn't lying. Only ten minutes later, Jungkook received a message from the man, telling him that he was waiting for him outside. Jungkook grabbed the bag of clothes he'd packed for himself in the meantime, and stormed out of his room. He rushed down the stairs, and his mother rushed towards him as he passed the living room.

"What are you up to? Where do you think you're going? We hadn't finished talking!"

"I've got nothing more to say." Jungkook replied without looking at her. "I'm sorry I left without saying anything, but if your party hadn't been so boring, I might have stayed."

Hyeri stopped dead in her tracks, her eyes wide. She was shocked by the words her own son had used. How could he talk to her like that? She'd educated him well, so how could he disrespect his mother so much?

"Jungkook you brat, come back here!" she shouted, suddenly red with anger.

But the boy didn't obey her, continuing on his way without even looking at her. He didn't know whether Jongsu was there to witness the scene or not, and he couldn't care less. He'd stopped worrying about what his family thought of him a long time ago. He knew that no matter how hard he tried, he would never satisfy them. So he might as well make the most of his life, and if he could annoy them at the same time, that was perfect.

He stormed out of the house, his mother still behind him, yelling at him to come back. Jungkook was walking too fast for her, so she was perfectly incapable of catching him. All she could do was shout, hoping that the little parental authority she had in her would have some effect on her son.

It didn't take Jungkook long to find Taehyung's car, which was parked on the pavement opposite. He rushed in, and sighed with relief when his mother's cries were muffled by the car door closing behind him. He was again plunged into silence, a soothing silence.

"What have you done now to get her in such a state?"

Jungkook turned to Taehyung, who had been looking at the teenager with amusement. Seeing that the boy was angry and frustrated, he put one hand on his thigh, which he began to caress, while the other remained lazily on the steering wheel.

"You know how she is. She thinks I should always obey her blindly, without ever listening to what I have to say."

"Okay, let me rephrase that: what did she say to get you in such a state?"

A pout formed on Jungkook's lips, proving to Taehyung that something had indeed happened. So as not to risk Hyeri coming back, the man quickly started the car, but kept his hand on the teenager's thigh, squeezing it tenderly to encourage him to speak.

"She... she told me you were going to get married soon, and make a life for yourself, with a woman your parents would introduce you to..."

Jungkook felt the man tense up, knowing full well that his parents were indeed looking for a partner for him. They had already had a hard time dealing with the fact that Namjoon had married a man, so they wanted to be sure that everything would go well with Taehyung. Little did they know that Taehyung was incredibly gay for the young man sitting next to him.

"Darling, you know very well what it's like... You're all I've got, and you're all I'll ever have..."

"I know, but..."

The pout wouldn't leave his lips. Yes, of course he knew that Taehyung loved him, the man had even proposed to him just before he left for military service. But it was still painful to be constantly reminded that he wasn't the one for him. As far as people were concerned, Taehyung and Jungkook should never have been together.

Taehyung couldn't contain a sigh when he saw the sad look on his baby's face.

"Sweetheart, if you want, we can tell them we're engaged... it might take a bit of time with my parents, but at least you'll have some peace of mind..."

The idea was tempting, really, because Jungkook was really fed up with hiding, but he shook his head.

"No, not yet..."

Taehyung couldn't help smiling proudly. To understand better, we had to go back a few years ago. When Seokjin had married Namjoon and decided to go his own way, he had unconsciously passed the torch to Jungkook. Jin was to have inherited his father's company, but his medical studies had led him down a different path; the next in line was to have been Jongsu, but because of his health problems, it was too risky to make him CEO, so the only one left was Jungkook. Jungkook wanted to become an artist. He'd had a huge row with his father when he'd been accepted to art school.

He wanted to prove to his parents that he could manage without them. That he could be independent, that he could show them that they were wrong. Except that if he revealed his engagement to Taehyung before the end of his studies, he'd probably be accused of taking advantage of the man's money and influence to succeed. He didn't want that. He wanted everyone to know that it was a love marriage, and to do that he had to succeed on his own.

Taehyung stopped at a red light and took the opportunity to turn towards the teenager, placing a long kiss on his full lips.

"As you wish, my love."
